Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
January 17th-20th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week we are starting our new unit on "Astronomy." Lesson one will be dealing with the sun. On Friday, students will complete a lab where they will make a diagram of the sun out of food.
- Ms. Shipp's Social Studies: On Tuesday, students will be taking their quiz on the Declaration of Independence. After this, we will continue learning about the major battles of the American Revolution.
- Mrs. Thurston's ELA/Math: The math quiz is tomorrow on adding/subtracting fractions, and converting mixed and improper fractions. This week we are reviewing, quizzing, and starting multiplying fractions tomorrow. In reading we are learning about Mythology and in writing we are working on our Snowed in at FMES stories.
- Ms. Harris's ELA/Math: This week there will be NO Math Stars. We will start back with that on the 23rd. In math we will be wrapping up our unit on fractions and taking our unit test on Friday. In ELA, Ms. Thompson will be teaching the children about cycles of change. In writing, we will be working on grammar and how to respond to text-dependent analysis questions. On Friday, students will work on their culture project. There will be NO spelling this week.
It's That Time Of Year
There definitely seems to be some kind of bug going around school lately. If you child is home sick, please let me know and I can pull or hold their work until they feel better. We are hand-sanitizing and Lysoling up a storm here! Any extra Clorox wipes would be appreciated!!
Literacy Night at FMES Thursday 19th 6-7:30
This night is all about celebrating literacy at FMES. Come enjoy: bingo for books with hot chocolate, author book signing, story telling, interactive storywalks, and student reader theater productions.
Last Day To Order A Yearbook is FRIDAY!!

Other Information:
- Going home in Wednesday folders this week will be information and a permission slip for our March 1st field trip to Matthew's Playhouse. We are going to go see "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." The cost is $13. We will be taking 1-2 chaperones per class, so if you are interested, please let me know ASAP. If we have more than 1-2 volunteers, chaperones will be chosen at random. Chaperones would need to be at Matthew's Playhouse from 10:30-12:30.
- 100th day of school is January 23rd!
