SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE
7th Grade English/Language Arts/Reading
Happy Holidays!
I can't believe we are already halfway through our school year. The first semester has been great. Your children are all amazing!
Our benchmarks are over. Woot! The kids did great during our very busy testing week. The exams have provided teachers with important data which will enable us to dig into our learning strategies to best help our students. I'm already formulating ideas for our upcoming units!
I hope you have a restful and fun holiday break.
See you in 2018!
Reading comprehension and inference are two of the biggest challenges most students face. Reading on a daily basis builds comprehension. Sports magazines, blogs, comic books, as well as novels help students build reading skills.
Please encourage your child to keep reading over the break!
Thank you!
Homework
Students completing and turning in homework continues to be a problem. As we begin the second semester, please encourage your child to take responsibility for his/her assignments. All the 7th-grade teachers really appreciate the support!
Classroom Supplies
At this point in the school year, many of our supplies are depleted. Highlighters and markers have dried up, colored pencils have been sharpened to their tips, glue is gone, sharpeners have broken, and some things have walked away.
I would love to replenish our supplies to get us through the 2nd semester. Things we need more of:
- Hand sharpeners
- Highlighters
- Clipboards
- Liquid Glue
- Colored Pencils
- Markers
- Tissue
I appreciate any donations!
AUTHOR VISIT: Soman Chainani is coming to KMS!
Mr. Chainani's book trilogy has sold more than 1.5 million copies and book one, The School for Good and Evil, is being made into a movie by Universal Studios.About The School for Good and Evil:
With her glass slippers and devotion to good deeds, Sophie knows she'll earn top marks at the School for Good and join the ranks of past students like Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her shapeless black frocks and wicked black cat, seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil.
The two girls soon find their fortunes reversed—Sophie's dumped in the School for Evil to take Uglification, Death Curses, and Henchmen Training, while Agatha finds herself in the School for Good, thrust among handsome princes and fair maidens for classes in Princess Etiquette and Animal Communication.
But what if the mistake is actually the first clue to discovering who Sophie and Agatha really are?
