Patrick Marsh Middle School Band
This Week in Band at PMMS (April 6-9, 2021)
Time To Pivot (again!) PLEASE READ!
1) Bands Can Play Outside!
2) Four Day Per Week School Starting April 26th
The newest order (Order #15) removed all masking requirements outdoors and recommends them only if 6 ft of distancing is not maintained from people outside someone's household. This will allow the playing of instruments outdoors without any problem as long as we maintain distancing. The school district is in the process of renting and erecting a large tent that will be placed behind PMMS by the band room. Special musician masks for students and covers for instruments will also be available. Our plan is to start playing outside April 12th.
Lessons - With all of this taking place we had to create a new band lesson schedule. The new schedule will begin starting tomorrow (Tuesday) and should be good for the remainder of the year! The schedule will allow us to do virtual lessons until April 26th and then convert to in-person lessons (outside) following that. Students remaining virtual will still be able to do only online lessons. HERE IS THE NEW LESSON SCHEDULE
Band Classes - Starting tomorrow Mr. Gleason and Mrs. Haraldson will meet with all in-person and online students simultaneously during their given band class time. In class this week we will discuss the procedure for playing outside, help answer questions, and work on some rhythms. Students at home will be given some free time to practice while the students at school will do some more drum circle work.
When Should My Child Bring Their Instrument To School? - Students can bring instruments starting next Monday, April 12. PLEASE NOTE that tuba, euphonium, french horn, bari sax, and tenor saxophone players DO NOT need to bring in their home instruments. Percussionists only need to bring in their sticks/mallets. All students should bring in their band folder with band music and lesson books.
Where Will My Child Store Their Instrument? - Students have been assigned a new band locker number. We will post these locker numbers in the band room and share it with them online. Students do not need to lock their locker.
