Our PTO has planned a wonderful Holiday Party full of yummy treats and fun activities for your child. On this day, we will not have a gift exchange nor will students be permitted to bring extra snacks for the party. Please remember we are requiring everyone to check in through our V-Soft Parent Access System and bring a photo ID. Pre-registering in advance will help us to facilitate this process. Please pre-register using the form that was sent home and emailed previously. Once we receive your pre-registration form, a sticker will be sent home with your child. Please wear your sticker to Farney on the day of the party as this will help the registration process go quickly and smoothly. Party times are as follows:

Friday, December 18th

A.M. Pre-K and PPCD 10:00 – 10:45

P.M. Pre-K and PPCD 2:00 – 2:45

Kinder – 5th Grade 2:00 – 2:45

Winter break will be from December 21st - January 4th. Students will return to school on January 5, 2016.

December Character Education Theme

Our theme for the month of December is COMPASSION. Compassion means caring enough to do something about someone else’s need. During this holiday season, there will be many opportunities to show compassion and the will to help others. Discuss ways that your family can demonstrate compassion throughout December.

King Arthur's Flour Kids Bake to Share

4th and 5th grade students participated in the King Arthur's Flour Kids Bake to Share program this week. Students are bringing home materials to make 2 loaves of bread - one to enjoy at home and another to donate to Cypress Assistance Ministries. This exciting program enables students to develop their baking skills while also supporting our December character theme - COMPASSION.

Our Watch Dog program consists of Dads or Father Figures of Great Students who volunteer one day at their child’s school. They will perform a variety of tasks including assisting with the car line in the morning, monitoring the cafeteria and helping in their child’s classroom. Please contact sara.runge@cfisd.net if you are interested in participating and to schedule your date. We look forward to your participation and hope to see many dads at Farney Elementary!

All of our 2nd and 3rd graders enjoyed the Don Tate author/illustrator visit on Monday, December 7. He told them that each and every one of them have a special talent and with practice they can continue to get better and better at their very own special talent. He also showed some drawing techniques and shared that when you rewrite your stories you continue to make them better. Thank you to our generous PTO for funding these valuable experiences for all of our students!

Thank you to our Library Volunteers! I am glad you are able to “stick” with us! You make a huge difference in the success of our boys and girls! Thanks!!

Take some time to look for any Farney Library Books that may be “hiding” around your home! Kids need to check out new books every week and the only way that they can do that is to bring their books back!

Name That Book teams are being formed now in our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. Encourage your reader to work with the other students on the team to make their Name That Book team the best it can be!

Enjoy a holiday time with your family and friends! There is no APP to replace YOUR LAP - read to your children often!

Lunch Visitors

Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit during lunch. Any other visitors (grandparents, siblings, friends, etc.), must be accompanied by the parent or guardian or have a note giving them permission to eat with the child. In accordance to CFISD policy, school age children are not permitted to visit the campus at any time. Due to food and nutrition guidelines, you may bring lunch for your child only. For your convenience, there are several tables reserved for you to enjoy lunch with your child. Teachers will call the “Farney Five” at the end of lunch to signal when it is time for your child to say a quick goodbye and rejoin his/her class.

ConocoPhillips 2016 Math Teacher of the Month

Now through December 15, we are accepting nominations on the ConocoPhillips website for the 2016 Math Teacher of the Month program. Students, their parents or legal guardians, fellow teachers, and school administrators are all eligible to nominate a math teacher for recognition. Additional details about the program, including eligibility, selection process, selection criteria and awards can be found on the program’s dedicated webpage: www.conocophillips.com/MathTeacheroftheMonth

Birthday Celebrations

Student birthdays are acknowledged at school during the morning announcements and in the classroom. Students are not permitted to distribute invitations to personal parties at school. We also do not allow the delivery of gifts such as flowers, balloons, etc. Due to health regulations, you cannot bring cakes, cupcakes, favors, etc. If you'd like your child to celebrate with his/her class, treats may be purchased from the cafeteria with 5 days notice. Contact martha.santacruz@cfisd.net for details.

Reserved Parking

The reserved parking spaces at the front of the school are reserved for Farney staff members who frequently leave from and/or return to the building during the school day. Please do not park in these spaces before school, after school, or during the day. For your convenience, we ask all other staff members to use the back parking lot so that there are dozens of visitor spots available to you in the front of the school. We appreciate your cooperation.
