2022/2023 Welcome!
Dear WCS families,
I hope this correspondence finds you well!
Our theme for this school year is, "This is our work of faith, labor of love, and endurance of hope."
The longer context comes from St. Paul's letter to the Thessalonians, "We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before of God and Father, knowing, brothers loved by God, how you were chosen."
I am so grateful for your faith in WCS, the love you give your child(ren), and your hope for great things to come this school year. We are here in this place and time together for a reason. How awe inspiring!
Terrific Teachers!
Welcome to Miss Zoe Hawthorne our new 5th grade teacher! Zoe grew up in Wauwatosa, attending Wauwatosa East High School. At a very young age, she knew she wanted to be a teacher. In fact, she worked with children since she was young- babysitting, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, and working as a summer school teacher’s aide. Zoe is a recent graduate from U.W.-Whitewater where she earned her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. She is currently working as an art teacher in the Elmbrook School District’s summer school program. In Zoe’s words, "I am excited to be part of Wauwatosa Catholic and have my very own classroom. I look forward to getting to know the 5th grade students and their families, as well as the rest of the Wauwatosa Catholic community. I hope to help my students prepare for the future, love learning, and continue to develop and grow."
Mrs. Melissa Lawrenz will be joining our 1st graders as their educational leader! This past May, Melissa earned her licensure to teach 1st through 8th grade. She, however, is not new to education. She earned her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from U.W.-Milwaukee in 2011. Upon graduation, she began working at the School District of Waukesha in a Special Education role. She later transferred to the elementary and middle school levels at the same district. With her new licensure in hand, Melissa knew she wanted to teach in a Catholic School. Her love for strong Catholic values and the wonderful experiences attending St. Mary’s in Hales Corners is what she hopes to share/recreate with her future students. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys watching her two boys play sports hockey, baseball and roller hockey. If she is not watching her boys play sports, she enjoys running, rollerblading and using her Cricut to craft. She is excited to join the WCS community and we are thrilled to have her.
We are so happy to announce that Mrs. Alice Weinshrott will be returning to teach Science and Math at the Middle School level! Entering her 10th year as a teacher at WCS, Mrs. Weinshrott has accompanied the 8th graders on trips to DC, facilitated participation in STEM challenges at Catholic Memorial, and even coached volleyball for one year. We look forward to relying on her strong teaching skills, content knowledge, and familiarity with WCS. Welcome back Mrs. Weinshrott!

Parent Involvement Program (PIP) is back!
Briefly for families new to WCS-
This is a win-win program. We are able to keep our costs down because of your 40 service/volunteer hours given throughout the school year and your child(ren) love that you are involved with their learning.
We have a new mural!

Summer fun at WC Childcare
Ms. Tisa and friends have gathered over 200 books to donate to the Next Door Milwaukee Foundation on 29th and Center. They have also collected 120 food items to donate to st. Bernard's Food Pantry. Way to go!
Remember that WC Childcare is open to all children over summertime, not just WCS families. So spread the word!
Welcome to WC Childcare Miss Maddie!
WC Childcare welcomes Miss Maddie Waring. Maddie is a recent graduate of UWM where she studied marketing. She will be continuing her studies this fall in UWM’s graduate marketing program alongside working with us. I am excited to see her more because she was one of my Spanish students from New Berlin Eisenhower! Be sure to stop down and say, “hola.”
Have you registered for the Cornhole Classic yet?
School Directory
I have spoken with Mary Braunsdorf from In-Focus Photography about offering a family photo day for our families so that we can create a School Directory. What a great way for all to get to know each other! Additionally, I thought families would appreciate an opportunity to have their photo professionally done. I know it’s been a while since my family has had one taken. The date is set for Sept. 6th from 5:00pm till 8:00pm. If we fill all the slots, they will come another day as well. While this is the same company that takes each student’s photo, the cost will be a little higher for the family packages because there is more set-up and people involved. All in your family are welcome!

MUHS's principal, Mr. Jeff Monday, notes that "the foundation for a student's success in high school is established in elementary school and middle school."
We are happy to share this good news with our school community.
Calling all jockeys and Thoroughbreds to this school year's WCS Auction!

The theme is Kentucky Derby.
Class parties will be in the fall to facilitate families getting to know each other.
