From Mrs. Andersen's Desk (PK-6 Principal)
Thank you to all professionals that joined us on October 19th for DLB's second annual Career Day! Another big shoutout to Mrs. Fischer for organizing a fun event for our elementary students! Students in grades kindergarten through sixth heard from different professionals in their field. K-2 were able to hear from Dr. Hensen (dentist), Dr. Schaefer (veterinarian), Mrs. Haffner (sign linguist), Mrs. Cool (artist), Officer Keith and Officer Tony (Burlington Police), and the MSU Science Department. 3-6 heard from Pockets Full of Posies (Florist), Tande Photography, Ms. Buri (Radiologist), MSU Science Department, Mr. Lentz (Minot Fire Department), Ackerman-Estvold (Engineers), and Miss Grandy from Premier Movement. Each professional shared with students things about their career and had an activity for them to participate.
On October 25th we will have our first ever STEAM night from 5:30-7:30pm for grades K-6! All students and parents are invited and you may come and go as you need during that time frame. Minot Discovery Center will be coming to Des Lacs Burlington Elementary's gymnasium with ten stations that have activities that align with science, technology, engineering, art and/or math. Parents and students will rotate through the stations at their own pace. Concessions will be served at the event.
We will also have a kindergarten meet and greet the same night as STEAM night on October 25th from 5:30pm-6:00pm. This is an opportunity for kindergarten parents to connect with other kindergarten parents. Please join us!
Lunch Room Expectations
Students were taught lunchroom expectations at the beginning of the month of October which include, lunchroom volume and sitting; manners and respect; entering and exiting the lunchroom; and leaving the area clean. Each classroom is able to earn 4 points per day that add up through the week. The class with the most points through the week gets announced on the Monday morning announcements, receive the traveling trophy, and receive a cookie with lunch. The points continue to add up through the month and the class with the most points at the end of the month get to celebrate with a pizza party! Our first week had a tie with Mrs. Haner's 5th grade class and Mrs. Hedge's 4th grade class winning. Week two had Mr. Roedocker's 6th grade class coming through with the most points. It is still a very close race for the pizza party at the end of the month!
Thank you!
Thank you for your generous donations for popcorn and PJ day! The elementary and high school were able to send over $1600 to the Wiese family for medical expenses.

With the first 9 weeks coming to an end, here are a couple helpful reminders to stay proactive within your child’s educational success.
- Actively check grades within PowerSchool.
- Grades are updated within PowerSchool regularly; however, it is important to actively check your child’s Google Classroom.
- Daily tasks/assignments are posted in Google Classroom.
- If your child says that he/she does not have homework, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to have them open their Google Classrooms to show you!
- If you ever have questions/concerns about your child, do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers.
- Each teacher’s contact information can be found on our district’s website.

National Honor Society Information
Membership criteria
To be selected to the National Honor Society, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. They are also required to complete an information form showing their interest and desire to be a part of this organization. The information forms are reviewed and selections are based on a variety of factors, which can be reviewed in the bylaws linked to the website (see below).
For students considering NHS as an option in the coming year, we highly recommend keeping track of community service hours over the summer and into the next school year. The current bylaws require a minimum of 10 service hours per year for all members. Other requirements include attending all monthly meetings, carrying goals of scholarship, leadership, character, and service, and actively participating in group projects through the year.
Information forms will be shared with eligible students in January 2023. For more information, please contact the chapter advisor, Mary Eldredge Sandbo at the high school.
