Summer Reading, Learning and Fun
For Memorial Students
Summer is almost here! It's a time to have fun, see friends and family, play sports, go to camp and maybe even slow down. It's also an important time to keep on reading and learning too. Below you will find a few ideas and resources for making reading and learning fun ;-)
Did you know?
Kids who read during the summer skip the "Summer Slide" altogether. Research shows that students who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who don't often slide backwards and lose the leaps they've made during the school year. Help your child be prepared for the next school year by encouraging them to read and participate in some of these learning opportunities listed below.
Medfield Public Library Summer Reading Program
Visit the library this summer to learn something new, create cool stuff, win prizes, and have fun! Medfield's Summer Reading Program is free and open to all ages! Check it out!
Scholastic Summer Reading Program
Keep students reading and learning all summer long! The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge was developed to motivate students to read as much as possible during June, July and August in an effort to set a reading world record for the summer of 2015. This year's theme is Power up and Read.
A Few Great Book Suggestions
The following list, created by The Association for Library Service for Children (ALSC), is full of book titles to keep children engaged in reading throughout the summer. To print out this list and to see others for older kids, click here.
