Weekly Family Update #23
January 29, 2023
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
I cannot believe it is almost February Falcons! Tomorrow our whole staff will have the opportunity to participate in a professional growth day. We are excited to spend time together as a whole staff. Our theme this year has been around belonging and creating a space where all students feel safe and valued. We will be listening to voices from former students who will be sharing their story of OVMS and how they found the sense of belonging here.
The progress report grading period for trimester 2 has ended. Students were issued a progress report. These are not final grades, just a report on their current progress. Parents can view this report on through ParentVue & StudentVue in Synergy. Please follow this link for directions on how to access your most recent progress reports.
Tomorrow our Falcon Foundation kicks off their annual fundraising campaign, A Few of Our Favorite Things. We will have several students creating flyers and sharing some of their favorite things at OVMS that we are grateful to have due to the fundraising efforts of our Falcon Foundation parent volunteers. An information message was sent to all families last Friday and more information which can also be found by clicking the Foundation flyer below. I am so thankful for our Foundation. They help create an incredible middle school experience for our students. Please consider donating to their efforts. We cannot do this without your support. Thank you 92127 community!!
Reminder there is no school tomorrow Monday January 30 for an all district professional growth day.

New Information
Sports Photos Needed!
Yearbook is in need of sports photos. The Oak Valley yearbook staff is looking to have any and all sports represented in the yearbook. They do not have to be action shots, a photo of your student in their uniform is great also. Please go to the Oak Valley website, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the link that says, "Share Your Photos With Yearbook Here".
If you missed our yearbook deadline last week, you have another chance to order before the price goes up again. We have a limited number of discount codes (4043YB23$5) available to get $5 off the current price of the book. Once the discount codes are gone, they’re gone so order now on jostens.com.
Traffic Safety Reminders
Getting all students to school safely each day is a priority for our entire community. Please make sure you are obeying all traffic laws. Please help us in ensuring the safety of all students.
Pick Up/Drop Off Procedures
Please make sure you are dropping off students in the orange drop off zones only. This is critically important to ensure the safety of students in our parking lot and surrounding areas. Cars turning onto Winecreek Road should follow the flow of traffic into the parking lot until you reach the orange drop off area. Cars will need to wait and move as far forward as possible to expediate the process. Staff are present in the morning and afternoon to help.
At the end of Winecreek Road there is an entrance to the Ivy Gate community. This is a private road. Please respect our neighbors and do not use this road for making U-turns, waiting to pick up your student, or parking. It is illegal to park along red painted curbs
The section of Carmel Valley Road between Dove Canyon and Winecreek is a Three-Minute Drop Off/Pick only. There is no extended parking allowed here. Please use caution as you stop to drop off/pick up your student as there is also a floating bike lane along the road. DO NOT double park along this road to drop off or pick up your student. This is extremely dangerous.
Mending Matters Mental Health Support
Hello Falcon Families,
A huge thank you to all who supported their students in taking the We Hear Youth mental health survey during Connections class earlier this year. We had 1,227 students respond, which has given us great insight into how we can continue to best support our school community!
Over the last couple of months, the Life Advisors, a group of OVMS students, have been working hard in reviewing the data and preparing the video response report. The video report focuses on the results the Life Advisors wanted to highlight to their peers. This information was shared out in Connections class this week.
Attached HERE is the Student Response Report.
A big shout out to our Life Advisors who worked hard to prepare this report: Josie M, Gavin O., Aashi G., Aadhya A., Aarya A., Rhea J., Setayesh K., Gabriella D., Jory B., Yelizaveta G., Sierra L., Timothy A., Ryan P., Kortez B., Aya A., Tess M., Hunter S.,
Thank you for your support!

Requesting Early Release For Your Students
We are currently short-staffed in the office and during lunch supervision. Calling ahead will allow us to notify your student before they go to lunch. With over 750 students at lunch at one time, finding students can be challenging and time-consuming while you wait.
Please remember to call the Attendance Hotline for early release, absence & late arrivals: 858-676-6963.
