Another Retreat Opportunity

Aloha Everyone,

If you are a new or returning student you might have heard some of your peers talk about the Awakening Retreat. The retreat has been a powerful experience of faith and community for many students who have attended over the last 16 years.

I invite you to consider attending the retreat for your own spiritual growth and development. Each persons Awakening is different but the common thread that can be woven between each experience is that many of our students return to campus with a deeper sense of the love of God that is present in community and a renewal of their commitment of faith.

Whether you are able to attend the retreat this semester or next, you can be assured of my prayer for you as you continue your educational journey here at Chaminade.

May God bless you,

Bro. Brandon K. Alana, S.M.

Minister for Retreats

About the Retreat

The Awakening Retreat program is a powerful, three-day weekend retreat for Chaminade undergraduate students. The retreat is rooted in the Christian tradition and its contents are drawn from our Catholic identity.

Though the retreat is deeply Catholic in nature it is open to people of different denominations and faiths who wish to discover the Christian message of faith, hope, and love. All this is done in the context of a community atmosphere.

Why Attend the Retreat?

There are varied reasons why anyone would attend any retreat. We believe that you would want to attend Awakening because you wish to foster new friendships with your peers who share the same faith-based values as you. Others who attend the retreat do so because they need the support of a community to help them grow deeper in their own faith and Christian identity. And for many others, they attend the retreat because they wish to grow closer to God through prayer.

Your reason for attending the retreat will become evident to you before, during or after the retreat experience. My hope is that you do come.

Cost of the Retreat

The retreat costs $50. Okay, take a deep breath. We know that for students that is a lot of money, but allow me to put that cost into perspective for you.

It costs approximately $150-$200 per student to attend the retreat. Now that's a lot of money! The expenses includes lodging for two nights, six meals, transportation, and supplies and materials.

If you've been doing the calculations in your head, you'll notice that your $50 retreat fee covers about a quarter of the cost of the retreat. That means Campus Ministry has to subsidize the retreat by 75%. So in a way, you're getting a great deal!

Do you Offer Financial Assistance?

We understand that even though the cost to students is only 25% of the real cost of the retreat per person, many students simply cannot afford $50.

We have some money set aside from generous people, many from members of our faculty, staff and alumni. If you need financial assistance, please make note that you do when you register. I will personally contact you and we can work out an arrangement.

When, Where, and How to Register

The retreat is scheduled for October 23-25, 2015. We will leave campus between 4:30 and 5 p.m. and return to campus Sunday around 5:30 p.m. The retreat will be at the St. Stephen's Diocesan Center off of the Pali highway.
