Planned Parenthood
Why defunding Planned Parenthood would be a grave mistake
Senate Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood
On November 29, 2015, the Senate voted to defund Planned Parenthood
What is Planned Parenthood?
Planned Parenthood is a credible health care provider whose goal is to provide quality reproductive care and information for both men and women. Planned Parenthood provides a safe and compassionate environment for those looking for quality reproductive health care.
Services Provided by Planned Parenthood:
- Services to prevent unwanted pregnancies
- Wellness exams
- Access to birth control
- Screenings for cervical and prostate cancer
- Breast exams
- Tests and treatments for sexually transmitted diseases
- Sexual education and outreach programs
- Safe and legal abortion services
Why defunding Planned Parenthood would be an attack on women's health
Defunding Planned Parenthood would be a disservice to women nationwide. Providing access to birth control and wellness exams allows women to exert a sense of control over their bodies. Contrary to popular belief, abortion services are only 3% of the services provided by Planned Parenthood. Why defund an entire health care provider because certain Senators do not agree with only 3% of the services provided by Planned Parenthood? Taking away access to Planned Parenthood is taking away access to quality reproductive health care. It's 2015, not 1950! Just because we are women does not mean that we do not deserve the right to excellent reproductive health care. This may be surprising to some, but women are people too.

Celebrities Stand with Planned Parenthood
"Attacking this funding is attacking women who need preventive health care, including women who need cancer screenings and contraception. Congress should not allow politics to get in the way of lifesaving care."
-Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood President
