Governor Northam Signs Legislation Creating Tuition-Free Community College Program for Low- and Middle-Income Students
The G3 program is one of the first in the nation to provide wraparound financial assistance to help students at the lowest income levels with expenses such as food, transportation, and child care. Students who qualify for a full federal Pell grant and enroll full-time will receive student- support incentive grants on a semester basis. These grants will be in an amount up to $900 per semester and up to $450 per summer term. Participating institutions will receive a performance payment for every eligible student receiving a student-support incentive grant that successfully completes 30 credit hours, and an additional performance payment when the student earns an associate degree.
Virginia students and families can go to virginiacan.org/fafsa to schedule a virtual meeting with a FAFSA advisor.

GRADUATION 2021
Dear Class of 2021 students and families,
We wanted to communicate a change in venue and date and time of the Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony. In light of the most recent information from the Office of the Governor of Virginia related to graduations and/or commencement events, we learned that outdoor venues such as Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, would be a viable option for this year’s ceremony. Therefore, I am excited to announce that the new date and time and venue for the Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony is Friday, May 28, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia. Each graduating senior will receive up to four (4) tickets for those who wish to join us for this joyous occasion. The limitation for guests is necessary to ensure that we comply with the Governor’s mandatory requirements. More information is forthcoming. Please contact Ms. Cathy Sanders (csanders@mcpsva.org) or Mr. Tim Thomas (tthomas@mcpsva.org) if you have any questions. We are thrilled that we are able to offer this culminating experience for our Seniors.

College Board- College Point, for Juniors
Students enrolled in CollegePoint have access to a personal college advisor during the spring of their junior year and through their senior year of high school. They can contact their advisor to discuss and get support with anything college-related, from the application process to essay writing support and financial aid.
This advising initiative, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is designed to supplement—not replace—the important work that you and other educators are already doing. Students who take advantage of this opportunity are encouraged to share the details of their participation and their advisors' contact information with you. Please know that these advisors are eager to work alongside you to support your students, but your students are under no obligation to sign up for this program and can opt out at any point.
This spring, select students in the class of 2022 will receive invitations from the College Board's Access to Opportunity program on behalf of CollegePoint to connect them with additional supports. Students invited to participate are high achieving—their scores are in the top 10th percentiles nationally on the PSAT/NMSQT® or SAT®—but may come from a low- or moderate-income household. You can sign up.
We hope our efforts will prove useful to your students and support your own work as you guide them through their journey to college. If you have any questions about this initiative, please contact the College Board at access@collegeboard.org.

Scholarships
Students have the option of taking classes pass/fail this year
Pass/Fail Grading Option for Final Course Grades for the 2020-21 School Year
Parents and students please read the revised grading regulation that has been approved for the end of this school year.
A student in a high school credit-bearing course may choose to take a pass or fail final grade in lieu of a final course percentage grade. If a student chooses this option, the student or parent must contact the teacher by May 14, 2021. If a student elects to take a course pass or fail, the pass or fail grade will not be calculated into the student’s cumulative GPA. Students with final course averages of 59% or below will automatically receive a fail in lieu of a final course percentage grade.
If you have questions please feel free to reach out to your teacher or assigned counselor.
Juniors- Have you registered for the ACT or SAT?
The ACT is offered on June 12th. Register at ACT.org. The SAT is offered on June 5, 2021. Register at Collegeboard.com. If you are eligible for free/reduced lunch, email Mrs. Violett for the fee waiver application. Jviolett@mcpsva.org
