Kids Heart Challenge!
A quick Note from Mrs. Heim
Hello Parents and Families!
My name is Elizabeth Heim, and I am the brand-new P.E. Teacher at Joan Martin. I'm very excited to kick off the Kids Heart Challenge this week, sponsored by the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association helps families with sick or broken hearts, and leads the way with funding the research they need to save lives. In class, we are going to be learning how to keep our heart healthy and how to help someone in distress of a heart attack or stroke. Your support means that families will get the treatment they need, and our gym class can some new equipment!
This week, your child will be bringing home a paper with envelope attached that will explain in further detail how to register and be a part of the challenge. Registration is free! Just signing up supports our class. There are so many cool prizes that I'm ready to hand out. We appreciate you, Joan Martin Families!
2023-23 School Calendar
Arrival for Car Riders and Walkers
Car riders are to pull around to the back of the school and students will enter through Door 11. Please know that on a regular start day, this door is closed at 8:55 and on Late Start Wednesday it is closed at 9:15. Students are released to go to their classrooms at 8:45/9:05 and the bell rings to start class at 8:55/9:15. If you arrive after these times you need to park in the side lot and walk your student up to Door 1 to check them in. Walkers arrive through Door 7 and this door is closed at 8:50/9:00. If you arrive after that please walk to Door 1. It is important that we keep all our students safe and we need to partner together to make this happen. Thank you for your cooperation.
Buses Only During Arrival and Dismissal
Please remember the front of the school is for buses only during arrival and dismissal. We are having an increase in cars coming through the Buses ONLY lane. If you need to walk a student in during this time, please park in the lot off of 10th Stree and walk up to Door 1. There is an enterance to this parking lot that does not go through the bus lane. Thank you in partnering with us to keep the kids safe!
Lost and Found!
We have a growing number of sweatshirts, coats, hats, and gloves that are being left behind. Please have your child check to the Lost and Found if they are missing items. If possible please write your child's name on a tag in items to help us get them back to their owners if they are lost.
Recess!
Please make sure you student is dressing for the weather. We will continue to go outside and we are seeing a lot of kids coming in still in shorts and/or without a coat.
Sending in personal footballs, basketballs, and soccor balls for recess
Please make sure if your student brings in any athletic balls from home for recess that they bring them in to school either in their backpack or another ball. We are having students playing with and dropping them along cars and busses creating a safety issue. It is also recommended that students names are written on the equipment they bring in from home. Thank you for your support with this.
Science of Reading!
Some information on What the Science of Reading is and how it is a shift from how reading was taught in the past.

Stay Informed!
The School City of Hobart uses Remind to communicate with families via text messages and/or phone calls.
What are some ways that we use Remind?
- District News- Weekly newsletter, emergency closings, and other important information
- Class Reminders from Teachers - Events, tests, homework, due dates
- Announcements and Celebrations
- One-on-One Help
If you have not been receiving our messages and would like to, please reach out to your student's teacher for their Remind class code, which you will then text to 81010. For example, if you wanted to join a class with the class code @math, you would text @math to 81010.
