The Disconnect between Faith and Work
I read an article this week on the importance of teaching students the value and the sacredness or school and work. For many students, school is at best a means to an end until college or their career can start, and at worst is a mandated form of torture that can't end soon enough.
For me, school was a release from the anxiety of not fitting in with my family. Growing up, my family life was volatile and I was often misunderstood or ignored because I was different and my interests didn't align with other members of my family. But for most students, school is not a safe haven and is often begrudgingly carried out with the hopes that college or the workforce will be better. However, I would offer the suggestion that we teach our kids the sacredness of work in general and the importance of viewing one's time in school as a sacred workspace. God made each of us with a purpose and with a need for work and accomplishment in our lives. it is easy to avoid these kinds of conversations under the notion that they are just being kids and they will grow up someday but the truth is they won't. What is fostered in the home will manifest, for good or ill, in the student's life outside of the home. If school is hated now, work will be rejected later. I would encourage each of you to walk with your children as they struggle in school and foster a sense of the sacredness and the calling that God has for each of us in the work he has given us to do. I have linked the article below for those who would like to read further. God Bless!!!!!
