GPS Global Academy - August 16, 2021
Welcome to Week 3!
Hello, Global Families!
Now that our first 'full' week is over, we hope you're now in a good rhythm and feeling more comfortable with online learning.
We've been hearing some cool stories lately about students attending their classes in a cool place:
- for some: a meticulously organized workspace
- for others: on vacation, exploring the world.
So, this week, we'd love to know: from where does your child (or children) attend Global?
We'd love for you to share a picture so that we can better tell our story in our promotional materials. If you're willing, please email your picture to email@example.com!
We hope you have a happy and productive week!
How does the GGA schedule work?
One question we've heard quite a bit recently is: "Is my student expected to be on WebEx for their entire scheduled day?" The answer is: not exactly.
Synchronous learning time (both for elementary and for 7th-12th graders) will include several components:
- teacher-led live instruction
- teacher-led small groups
- independent online work
- independent offline work
- special areas (PE & Art)
- special education, ELL, speech and more (if applicable)
Throughout your child's day they will move between these various activities which should break up their time just listening and watching their teacher.
Parents/caregivers -- you are most welcome to add breaks in to your child's schedule during the 'independent work' times or have your child complete their independent work at a different time during the day (in the evening, for example, where you can work with them more effectively).
Please work with your child's teacher if you have questions or need suggestions about how to build more time into your child's day for movement and time away from the computer screen. They will be glad to assist!
Have a great week!
"Education to Go Boxes" - 1st through 6th grade
We will have an early evening pickup opportunity on Wednesday, August 18. On that day, we will be open from 8am to 5pm.
Elementary Art & PE
When can we go to these classes?
Remember that your child's daily class schedule has flexible points. They may choose to complete their independent work at another time during the day in order to attend an art or PE class they're interested in. Also - during "Intervention/Enrichment" times they may go if not called into a small group by their teacher.
My child plays soccer, baseball, dance, etc. Can those minutes count toward PE attendance?
Yes! We'd also love for your child to attend a lesson to see and interact other Global Innovators!
FAQs about Junior High and High School synchronous classes
We've ensured that synchronous classes follow the same bell schedule that our campuses use. This ensures that students are able to take a combination of in-person classes and online classes if they wish. We also wanted to ensure students have easy access to sports and clubs at their home campus as well.
Who do I contact if my child will be absent?
Class attendance is taken through the campus, so you will want to excuse your child through the school attendance line.
If my child wants to take in-person classes in addition to their synchronous online classes, who do I contact?
You'll contact the counselor at your home campus.
