From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents,
Today, the third graders had their annual Central School Spelling Bee in the auditorium. The students displayed many "Characteristics of Successful Learners" as they Listened Actively, Strived for Their Personal Best, Took Responsible Risks, Acted Responsibly, and Responded Effectively. Seeing the children apply these skills in a new setting like the Spelling Bee was a proud moment for all of us! We would like to especially congratulate the three top winners of the day:
Winner: Edie Park
1st Runner Up: Priscilla Locke
2nd Runner Up: Audrina Harvey
This spring and summer the PTA has partnered with school staff to make improvements outside on school grounds. Thanks to the PTA, the school garden has a new fence, a new shed, tables, and even a lending library shaped like a fox! In addition to the school garden, there will be changes made to the school's playground. While the old fort has been a big attraction for the students and a nice addition to the playground in past years, it has unfortunately, suffered from erosion, vandalism, and general wear and tear. The fort is now beyond the district’s ability to repair and maintain it. As a result, the fort will be taken down this summer. If you know anyone who was part of the original planning for the fort, please contact the school office. We are happy to take a photo of those who helped design and build the fort in front of the structure before it is taken down. With the fort coming down, the PTA decided to go in a new direction and installed a Gaga Ball Pit at Central School this week. The Gaga Ball Pit is similar to the one currently installed at Romona School. This new structure is a wonderful addition to the playground and we are very thankful to PE teacher, Ms Peth, and the PTA for their hard work and fundraising efforts to acquire this new piece of equipment.
It's hard to imagine there are only four more weeks of school. We are looking forward to culminating activities with your students in the coming days.
Warmly,
- Becky

Activity Day
Activity Day is rapidly approaching. This year's event will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018. Our rain date is Monday, June 11, 2018.
We are making some changes to our Activity Day this year. We will have our regular station rotation set-up as usual in the morning and new mixed grade level activities in the afternoon. In order to make this day a success, we will need volunteers for the morning session only. P.M. Kindergarten is the only exception to this. We will need some P.M. Kindergarten volunteers for the afternoon.
More information is available on the Sign-Up Genius. Looking forward to a fantastic Activity Day!

Bus Registration Reminder From the District - Final Posting
This is a reminder that BUS REGISTRATION is open for next year, and must be completed by July 13th for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school. This cutoff allow us to develop the most efficient routes. Late registrations will be subject to a fee - $50 for a one-way and $100 for round trip. Students registering late will only be placed on existing routes and stops when space is available and may not begin to ride the bus until September 17th. Late registrations will be processed in the order they are received. If the bus routes cannot accommodate your child, you will either be placed on a wait list or receive a refund.
The EXPRESS BUS will be back! The express bus provides a direct route between: Central - Highcrest, Central - WJHS, McKenzie - HMS, and McKenzie - WJHS. This allows for the shortest possible ride to school, reduced congestion on the neighborhood streets, and more friends at the bus stop. After you have paid your transportation fee, you can place your child on an EXPRESS BUS route.
If you think you may have already handled bus registration, please check your REVTRAKaccount; sign in and click on MY ACCOUNT for your order history.
All of this information can be found on the BUS REGISTRATION PAGE on the District website under the “For Parents” tab: CLICK HERE.

New for 2018/2019… all District 39 schools (K-8) will use a new vendor, EduKit, for school supplies. Ordering runs from May 1st – May 18th. Watch for a Central School email with ordering information on May 1st. Questions? Email Colleen Himan HERE.
From the Nurse's Office
Call Central School "Safe Phone" For Absences: 847-512-6150
Please call the "SAFE" (absence) phone to report absences even if you let the classroom teacher know, because some teachers don't see the email/voicemail until later in the day. Teachers assume you are calling the office. It's important that the school nurse is directly aware of any absences otherwise, your son/daughter may be considered "missing." The school nurse keeps track of all school absences in the building. For safety reasons, we want to make sure all of our students are accounted for and safe.
