PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Happy October!
So much is happening this month. Last week we had so many smiling grandparents and next week the fire fighters will be here to teach and review fire safety. Students are busy preparing songs to celebrate and honor our veterans. Students and staff are continually learning about one another and working together to create a learning environment built on trust and cooperation.
This is just a reminder about pick up and drop off. In the morning, if you need to come in to the building please park your car in a stall. The lane near the sidewalk is meant to be an area where only the kids get out to enter school. This is for safety reasons. Our end of the day routine seems to be working well. Remember that if your child's plan is changing for a day, please send a note to your child's teacher. If you can't send a note, send the teacher an email. If you don't receive a response from the email to acknowledge the change by 1:00 PM, call the office. Please try to reach the teacher first before contacting the office. Also remember to park in a stall at the end of the day when you come in to pick up your child. Please don't park along the fence. If we need to get an emergency vehicle in or out, that space is needed.
Thank you for your continued efforts to assist us as we work to keep every student and adult safe at our school.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.
Mrs. Michalski

Nurses Knowledge
Head Lice:
Below are some facts about lice and how you can help us prevent its spread.
What are head lice?
tiny insects- brownish/gray, wingless, bloodsucking insects that feed on the human scalp
lice hatch from small eggs (nits) -whitish/silver in color, that attach to the hair shaft close to the scalp.
They do not infest animals
they cannot live away from the human longer than 20 hours
they do not jump or fly but do crawl
they are not an indication of poor hygiene or parental neglect
How do you get head lice?
spread from person to person
sharing combs or brushes
wearing borrowed caps, barrettes, ribbons, scarves or other head coverings
sharing pillows or towels
you can’t get head lice from animals, grass or trees
How do you know if you have head lice?
usually head itches
egg (nits) always will be seen on individual hairs after careful checking of the entire head of hair
may see lice on scalp
sometimes small white specks in the hair such as dandruff can be confused with nits. Nits are difficult to remove; while dandruff will brush away easily.
To avoid the spread of head lice:
check family members daily for 2 weeks; treat only if head lice or eggs (nits) are seen.
all family members should avoid borrowing personal items: combs, brushes, towels, hats, etc.
tell others who were in close contact or who shared personal items so they can be checked and treated if necessary.

If your child did not bring the consent forms home for the FREE flu shots, go to www.ocph.info to download a form and find more information on the flu shot.
CDC recommends a flu shot for everyone 6 months and older. Flu is not just a bad cold; it’s a serious illness that can lead to pneumonia and other complications. The symptoms can last for up to two weeks and include: fever, cough, sore throat, headache, severe body aches, chills, runny or stuffy nose, extreme exhaustion, and sometimes in children diarrhea and vomiting. While your child may be nervous to receive a shot at school, Oconto County Public Health staff will work together to make your child as comfortable as possible.
Getting the flu shot every year is your best protection against the flu! You can also stay healthy by washing your hands frequently, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick. Please call Oconto County Public Health with questions at 920-834-7000.
