Reopening Update

We are excited by the thought of having our students return to school. With that goal in mind, it has been an encouraging week. Staff have had increased access to vaccines this week, and LA County continues to post data indicating improving health for the community.

During Thursday night's School Board Meeting, staff shared the District's reopening plans in detail. CUSD's Plan for Safe Reopening has been approved and that report is posted on the District's website. Audio of the Board meeting will be posted on the website soon.

During this Wednesday's Governance Council meeting, I will share highlights from our site's plan for reopening. Later this month, I'll host an evening meeting focused solely on our reopening plan. During that meeting, I'll share safety protocols, schedules for instruction, procedures for drop-off/pick-up, information about childcare and suggestions for preparing your family for this shift. During the last two weeks of March, staff and I will begin helping our students learn more about their return to school.

This shift to the hybrid model requires a lot of families and staff. Caregivers will be adjusting schedules, arranging for in-person attendance during specific learning times and continuing to support synchronous and asynchronous learning in the home. Teachers will be adjusting their schedules and will begin planning for in-person instruction while continuing to support their classrooms with synchronous and asynchronous learning. Most importantly, all of us will be keeping a keen eye on our students and supporting them with this transition.

We look forward to the benefits of having students and staff together and doing so in a safe and beneficial way. I continue to be thankful for your support of learning during the pandemic and for your flexibility and patience as we go forward.

Materials Pick Up and Student Leadership gift

We'll see many of you this Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9 and 10 from 12:00-4:00 PM for a materials pick up. Please check with your child's teacher to see if your child has things to pick up from school. During the pick up, students will receive a special treat prepared by our Student Leadership group. In preparation of the 100th day of school, Student Leadership surveyed their peers, asking for their best advice for distance learning. We received wonderful suggestions and encouraging words. These messages are included in the student gifts along with a fidget bracelet to support focus and a feeling that we are all "together." Enjoy!

*Students who do not have items for pick up will be given their Student Leadership gift when they return to school.

Claremont Educational Foundation Toyota Raffle

Claremont Educational Foundation has long been a supporter of Claremont's students. As a part of their fundraising and partnership with schools, CEF holds an annual Toyota car raffle. Claremont Toyota has donated a brand new 2021 Toyota Rav 4 to this year's raffle, and on June 5 one person will be the lucky winner. Tickets sell for $20. Seven dollars of each ticket comes back to our school, and the balance of the ticket price is profit for CEF. In turn, CEF donates those funds back to CUSD to support the arts and technology. We will sell tickets during the pick up days on March 9 and 10 and in the school office, if you call ahead. We encourage you to participate!

New Art Teachers

We are thrilled to be adding two new staff members to our Sycamore group! Jac Tardie and Luis Vera will be providing weekly virtual art lessons for our students through the end of the year. These lessons will be shared via links for student use during asynchronous times of the day. This Wednesday from 11:30-12:00, we will introduce them to our students through a virtual lunch and greet. Students can join using the WIN button on our student Canvas Page.
