The 4 Tropisms

Hydrotropism- A plant's growth response in which the direction of growth is determined by a stimulus or gradient in water concentration.

Thigmotropism- A movement in which a plant moves or grows in response to touch or contact stimuli. Usually occurs when plants grow around a surface, such as a wall or a pot.

Geotropism- The growth of the parts of plants leaning towards the force of gravity.

Phototropism- The orientation of a plant or other organism in response to light.

Plant Facts

All plants contain a green pigment known as chlorophyl. All plants create energy from sunlight using a process known as photosynthesis. All plants contain a material called cellulose which creates their cell walls.

There are about 260,000 known species of plants in the world as of 2015.

70,000 plant species are utilized for medicine.

68% of plants are in danger of going extinct.
