HAPPY NEW YEAR!
What a strange start to 2023! A big thank you to parents, staff and students for being flexible with school closing and for making E-Learning successful for almost all of our kids. We are all happy to be back together the last two days!
The next two weeks are big as we finish out the semester, do our winter benchmark assessments in literacy and math, and we send grades home on January 23rd. Please help your child make sure they are completing assignments, making up missing work, and preparing for tests so that the grades they receive are accurate reflections of their learning.
Thank you for your partnership!
Be You, Be RED!

Attendance Policy and Letters - Please Read
I wanted to make families aware that we are sending home quite a few attendance letters to families today. It is our school policy, that is aligned to county requirements, to send a formal notification to families when we reach a certain threshold of absences. We paused on sending many of the letters in late November and December due to the rampant illness passing through our school at the time.
One impact of frequent absences is that our policy requires a doctors note for illness related absences after a child reaches 10 days gone. If you receive a letter, please know that we look at every situation individually, knowing that there are many factors in a child's attendance. In almost all cases, we are already aware of why your child was absent and have excused those absences when possible.
We will reach out to you directly by phone, email, or a second letter if we get to a point where attendance is greatly impacting the students education or when the number of unexcused absences requires a report is made to the county.
If you have specific questions, concerns, or need support with getting your child to school consistently, you may reach out to Mrs. Malecha or Mr. Tressel at school.

JANUARY IS KINDNESS MONTH @ OAK CREST
TIGER TARGET (Jan 9-13) : I can be kind by being RED!
The Oak Crest expectation of being RED is all about kindness.
- Being respectful is about kindness to others. Treating them how they want to be treated.
- Being Excellent is about being kind to yourself. Doing your best and doing what will help you become the best version of yourself.
- Being Dependable is about being kind to everyone, your school, your community, your family, your team. You are showing people you value them by being prepared, doing what is asked, following expectations, so that others can also be Excellent like you!
This week be RED in all that you do, and the habit of kindness will be automatic.
