PBIS Incentive Launch
Dear Excelsior Families,
We are rolling out the 5 Star Student program for Quarter 2 to help us with our Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) initiative on campus. The 5 Star Student platform allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere for meeting behavior expectations: be safe, be respectful, and be responsible. When a student displays a behavior that is expected, the student will receive a point in their 5 Star "bank". The points earned throughout the quarter can be used to purchase items from our PBIS Store in 5 Star.
We are very excited to launch this initiative next week as a way to recognize students meeting our behavior expectations on campus. Since this is our first time trying this program, expect that it will evolve over time as we work to best support our student's positive behavior. Any changes or updates will be noted on this page.
Our Student Portal for 5-Star can be accessed by clicking THIS LINK. You can also view a short informational video on 5-Star by clicking THIS LINK.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jamie Keith

October 25th Guest Speaker: Lori Hayes. Motivational speaker Lori Hayes will be on campus to speak to our students about being good leaders.
October 26th's Haunting at EMS is a schoolwide festival day (we also have an event in spring that is very similar but with a different theme). The event runs from 12:30-2:30 on 10/26. There will be games, prizes, a jumpy, music, and lots of fun. This event is open to the public, so little siblings are welcome. Wristbands are $8 at the event and ASB members will get their free wristband (nontransferable) in TEAM on Tuesday, Oct 25th. Food will also be available for purchase at the event. This is not a mandatory event, so students who do not want to attend can be picked up at the normal 12:30 dismissal time for Wednesdays.
October 28th Pink Out! This spirit day is extreme pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Students are encouraged to wear pink.
October 31st Halloween Costume Contest at both 7/8th grade lunch and 6th grade lunch, hosted by our Leadership class. Reminder - no masks (face paint is ok), no weapons, and costumes must be school appropriate.

Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) is a state-funded program in California meant to reduce tobacco use among young people and educate them about the dangers of tobacco use - including new products (such as vape pens) aimed directly at them. The intended audience for this presentation is parents and teachers of middle school aged children in hopes that it will provide more information to our community on the dangers of tobacco, vape pens, and marijuana use in teens.
Please use THIS FORM to sign up for this participation. While signing up isn't required for attendance, having an audience count does help us ensure that we have enough materials for all attendees.
