First Grade Happenings
A Note from Mrs. Messer
It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the final week of school! The class as a whole has grown so much over the course of the school year and that is due in large part to your efforts to support your child. Your partnership enables your child to take what is learned in school to new heights and for that, I thank you!
As we look ahead to summer, please don’t forget to infuse some learning into all you do. The conversations you have together, the places you visit and the people you see, all have stories to tell. These experiences enrich your child in ways that move beyond the classroom doors. They also serve to help your child maintain all that he or she has accomplished this year!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Week of June 6th
- "I Can Do It!" Day/June 6th: Students are looking forward to seeing what interesting things their classmates can do! Please don't forget to sent your child's items (if needed) with them.
- Bowling Field Trip/June 7th: We will be leaving at 9:15 AM and arriving at the bowling alley by 9:45 AM for one hour of cosmic bowling. We will be back to school in time for our regularly scheduled lunch time, so there is no need to pack a lunch from home. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IN SOCKS.
- First Grade Party & Picnic/June 8th: Our first grade party and picnic will be held at Birchview rain or shine. If you wish to join us to volunteer, please arrive at 10:00 for instruction on where you can help. The party is from 10:30-12:00 with lunch from 12:00-12:30. Students are invited to bring blankets and a lunch from home for an outdoor picnic. At 12:30, you will be treated to our class performance of a Skippy Jon Jones reader's theater!
Our first grade authors are excited to share their writing with the 5th grade students on Monday. I'm very proud of all of their hard work! Look for these books to come home next week.
Students have been HIGHLY interested in our study of frogs and toads. They have learned some very interesting facts to add to their existing knowledge. A favorite fact is that some frogs have a special way of getting ride of a poisonous food that has been eaten. The frog can bring up its whole stomach out of its mouth and then wipe it clean with its back right foot! We will continue learning about frogs and toad next week, focusing on poisonous frogs.
