Joyceville PS Week Ahead
Cultivating Critical Thinking and Creativity in Responsive Learning Environments
It continues to be an absolute pleasure to visit classrooms and talk with students and staff about student learning. In particular, I am very impressed by the number of students who can talk about the purpose of what they are doing - what they are learning, why it's important, how a certain strategy helps them or what strategies they can use to be successful, and what their personal goals are. Students helped write the above tweets! It's also wonderful to hear the conversations that you have with me, each other and your students about the progress of your students and how you can best respond to their needs. That comes from your monitoring, reflection and your willingness to be open to new ways to help all our students make progress and be successful!
Teachers, please note that I sent you an email with reference documents related to reporting. We will discuss reports briefly at the staff meeting at the end of the month and you will have the PA Day on Feb. 4th for assessment and reporting.
I've also attached a a few things I saw on Twitter this last week! A new video from Lucy West - the guru on accountable talk and a link to Google Lesson - Search Challenges that help students thinking critically and effectively about searching the web!
Let's hope for more pleasant winter weather that we can enjoy and peaceful fort building!!! Have a great week.
Google Search Education
With more and more of the world's content online, it is critical that students understand how to effectively use web search to find quality sources appropriate to their task. We've created a series of lessons to help you guide your students to use search meaningfully in their schoolwork and beyond.
On this page, you'll find Search Literacy lessons and A Google A Day classroom challenges. Our search literacy lessons help you meet the new Common Core State Standards and are broken down based on level of expertise in search: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.
A Google A Day challenges help your students put their search skills to the test, and to get your classroom engaged and excited about using technology to discover the world around them.
