What's the Buzz - December 18, 2022
Message from Mrs. D and Miss Nancy
A Special Note from Us to You
The holiday season is now upon us and as 2022 comes to an end, the greatest gift you can give your child is a good education. The best place to get an education is in school. As you make your holiday plans, please make sure your child is in school everyday, right up until our holiday break begins. Just a few missed days here and there can add up to too much lost learning time. Make every day count!
This next Friday, December 23rd, is the last day of school for 2022. There will be no school from Tuesday, December 26, 2022 through Tuesday, January 10th, 2023. School will resume January 11th for all Southlawn students.
On behalf of all of our Southlawn staff members, we would like to take this time to thank all of you for your flexibility, support, and dedication during this fall. As you open a new school, there are so many things you don’t know until you don’t know. The safety and health of our students and staff will always come first.
During break we hope that you take time to relax and spend quality time with family. We look forward to seeing you back in January with classes resuming on January 11th.We would like to wish all of our bees and their families a very happy holiday season filled with love and laughter.
See you in 2023!
Time to Bundle Up!
The Winter Wonderland is heading our way and as the weather is changing, it is the desire of the school that students get outside as much as possible. Please visit our FAQs on our website (or click here) for more information about outside and inside recesses.
Early in the morning, if the temperatures are 27° F or below (taking into account the windchill factor), the front doors will open at 7:30 AM. Students who have not had breakfast at home will head to the cafeteria. All students in Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2 will go to the art room. Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 will go to the gym. At 7:40 the hallways will open and teachers will then begin to welcome their students at their classroom.
Parents, please remember as the temperatures and weather changes, the students become cold easily. Gloves, mittens, warm shoes and coats are needed to keep their bodies warm and protected from the cold and elements. Be sure to write your student's name on the inside of each of the items. Should they be found they can be returned to your child. Thank you.
Do you shop at King Soopers?
As you shop at your “favorite” local store (King Soopers), did you know that 2% of your purchases could be donated to Southlawn? The steps are easy. To begin, click here.
Also, if you have families and friends who shop at the following stores: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler and Smith’s Food and Drug, 2% of their purchases can also be donated to Southlawn. Even if they are in another state! They only need to be registered here in Colorado at King Soopers. If they apply for their King Soopers card here in Colorado, their purchases at any of these stores will qualify. Spread the word. It’s that easy!
Do You Receive Your Milk from Longmont Dairy?
Milk Caps for Moola is a program sponsored by Longmont Dairy that helps students earn money for their school. Longmont Dairy milk caps are worth 5¢ each and are redeemable for cash by participating schools only and Southlawn is one of them.
How does it work?
- Drink Longmont Dairy Milk (eligible cap products include: milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, half & half, whipping cream, orange juice, lemonade, raspberry lemonade, classic an cinnamon eggnog)
- Save the bottle caps. Save as many as you can - from your bottles, or collect them from your family and neighbors
- Bring your milk caps to school and put the into the collection box in the main office.

The Candycane Grams were a total hit with our little bees. To capture the excitement on their faces as they "secretly" purchased and addressed a Candycane Gram for someone special. The deliveries will be made this Friday.
If you happen to have any ideas for events and activities, please complete this form. We want to hear from you.
