Eagle Update Back to School Edition
Aug. 28, 2022

🦅 Good morning, Eagle Families 🦅
As students are navigating their way to class, we are fine-tuning the need to arrive on time. We chose a 3-minute passing period to eliminate any possible hallway issues and knowing that students' classes are generally in one area, Yellow Hall for 6th, Red Hall for 7th, and Orange Hall for 8th, they don't have far to go. We have noticed a lot of students were getting to class late after lunch, so we are letting them out earlier, allowing for more time to get to lockers and then to class and this seems to be working.
If your student gets dropped off late to school, you have 48 hours to call and excuse that tardy, the same as any absences that they may have. After 48 hours, attendance can not be changed, so be sure and call if needed. Late buses are always excused.
Our doors open at 7:40 am, and students need to be in class, ready to learn by 7:55. Please keep these times in mind as the weather gets colder; if your child has to wait outside, please be sure they are dressed for the cold.
Thank you, we are ready for a great week!

Fire and Evacuation Drill Coming Up!
During a fire drill, students will walk outside with their class, line up quietly for attendance, and wait for the All-Clear signal. Once we are done with this, we will begin to make our way to Ladd Elementary Gym, our official evacuation location should we ever find ourselves in a real emergency. Students will stay with their teachers, and attendance will be taken once again. Once all students are accounted for, we will make our way back to school.
This would be a great time to talk to your kids about emergencies and safety at home, too!
Here is a short video on how you can create your own safety drills at home!

Library News from MS. O!
Ms. O and Ms. Erin have been diligently working to get ChromeBooks organized and out to students. We are waiting for all of our new ones to arrive, so in the meantime, each class has a set for students to use.
Please find the attached doc that tells you a little bit about your library!
Please read over and sign the District Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement to familiarize yourself and your student with the expectations of school computer use. This must be done prior to your child receiving a ChromeBook.

"Handle with Care"
Sometimes families experience difficulties at home, and when this happens, we want to be able to provide your child the extra support and care that they may need while at school.
If your child is coming to school after a rough night, morning, or weekend, you do not have to give any details, just email me at heather.johnson@k12northstar.org with the subject line, "Handle With Care" and your child's name. Nothing else will be asked, but this will let me know that your child may need extra time, patients, or help while they are here.
We take care of each other here at Tanana, and want our kids to feel safe and cared for.

MILITARY STUDENT SUPPORT
Be sure and check out the Military Support Newsletter, and for more information, our Military Student Support page on our District's website has a lot of up-to-date information and resources available while you and your student are here!
- Ft. Wainwright Gate for Students - Opens at 7:30-9;00 and 2:00-3:30. This gate is located next to the Guard Station.
- Please do not allow your child to walk out of the main gate where traffic is heavy. We would hate to have anyone hurt, and when the snow flies, that road narrows dramatically.
