Migrant Parents Meeting Wednesday 3rd August
All migrant and international families are invited for a coffee and a chat on Wednesday 3rd August in the Staffroom at 9am for about half an hour. We get together once a term to talk about what is happening in that term and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you there.
BOT Elections Coming Up
Our school is undertaking a parent election for our School Board. This process started with the issuing of nomination papers to our caregiver community.
We have employed CES to undertake the election process on our behalf. This year with legislative change, our nomination form and full instruction on how to place your nomination into our own school's Election website has been emailed to you if we have your email address in our database or you will receive it by post if we don't have an email on our database.
Nomination papers will be also available at the school office. the school will send those on to CES for processing upon receipt from candidates.
Nominations close on Wednesday 03 August at 12 noon. Election day is Wednesday 07 September.
We look forward to your participation in this process.
If you feel you, or someone you know, would be a valuable board member of our school board, it might be worth considering a nomination. You would have received an email with the nomination information recently. Nominations close on the 3rd of August. Please see further info below.
Learning Conferences for Year 2 - 6
Learning Conferences for Year 2 - 6 will be happening on Tuesday 23rd August from 1.00 pm - 6.30 pm and on Wednesday 24th August from 3.15 pm - 6.30 pm.
If you are able to arrange it, it would be great if children could be picked up at 12.30pm on Tuesday 23rd August. As teachers will all be involved in conferences, children who remain at school will be supervised in the hall by the leadership team and learning assistants for the afternoon. School will finish at the normal time of 3pm on Wednesday 24th August.
A link with a booking code will be shared with you in the next newsletter.
Teacher Only Day
We have our second and final Teacher Only Day for the year on Friday 2nd September (Week 6). School will be closed that day and Kelly Club will be available for those who need it.
Assemblies & Powhiri
We are hoping to return to our indoor assemblies at some stage this term and also have a powhiri for all the Whānau who have started with us this year. We will revisit when this might happen around mid term and decide whether this is sensible based on case numbers and the amount of sickness going around. All going well though, it would be great to get Whānau along to celebrate learning and connect at some stage this term.
Events this Term - Mud Run and Trivia Night
Our postponed Mud Run from last year has been rescheduled for Friday 12th August 4-6pm and it's going to be BIGGER, WETTER and MUDDIER than originally planned, so bring along the whole family to join us. This event will be held in the afternoon to allow our Y6 learners from 2021, who helped raise money for this event, to come back and enjoy the fun. In order to make this event a success we need a huge amount of parent help, both managing the Mud Run course and selling food and drinks. Please add your name to the helpers list here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ss9jt6QEYkZxQBV9jJGO7Mdt6sHCztB8X4AJ8lbckDM/edit#gid=0
Also we have our annual Trivia Night scheduled for Saturday 17th September. Trivia Night is the biggest fundraising event of the school year and is always a huge hit with parents looking for a child-free, fun night out. Please see full details below.
Traffic
During the particularly rainy period late last term, we had a fair bit of congestion around the drop-off zone. Can you please ensure when you are using the drop-off zone that you only turn left into and out of the driveway? Turing right only slows everything down and creates a situation that is unsafe for our learners and traffic going past our school. Also please don’t park on yellow lines. This makes visibility difficult for our road patrollers and again creates an unsafe situation for our learners. We suggest if you have older children (Year 3 up) that you have a designated meeting point further away from school to pick up your child/ren, where parking is easier. Please note Mr Mannion has also put up some new signs to remind you.
Conceptual Learning for Term 3
Our big concept for the first term is ‘Change’.
You could discuss the following at home to help us explore this concept at school:
What does change mean to you?
What changes do we see in nature?
What changes do we see in people and animals?
How does change make you feel?
Why can change be positive and negative?
When have you experienced a change in your life and how did it make you feel?
Matariki Celebration
What a wonderful evening that was to end last term! A huge thank you to all our Whānau for coming along and celebrating with us. In particular I would like to thank our families that shared their amazing soups! We appreciated your support and loved your tasty soups! Lastly a huge thank you to Matua Stan and Matua Dan for your kōrero and Karakia. Below are a couple of photos from the evening.
DNA and Values Awards Week 9 Term 2
Congratulations to our learners who have been recognised in Week 7 for their outstanding work in showing our DNA and values.
This term is a time of real traction in embedding these values. We are starting to hear our learners talking about the different values and what they mean.

Kindo - Changes to Account Holder Terms
We have negotiated exemptions, which are awaiting approval, however there is a change that we need to bring to your attention.
We will no longer be able to return unspent funds to you in cash. As such, we recommend you only top up the amount that you will be able to fully spend before finishing school. (Hint: your Kindo balance can stay with your family from year to year and as you move from one ezlunch/Kindo school to another, so you may have lots of time yet!).
Here's a little more detail:
- If you have received a refund from your school or registered charity, e.g. in relation to a cancelled event, you can withdraw that value at any time within 12 months of the refund.
- Otherwise, cash withdrawals will no longer be available, including when you are closing your account.
- Credit balances may be spent, or you have the option of donating to your school or a registered charity.
Should you have more funds than you expect to use on your myKindo balance, you may wish to withdraw these before the terms change. You can do this easily on the 'top up account' page.
Are there other changes?
There are some other compliance requirements, but these are less likely to affect you. All changes to the Terms will be outlined when they've been completed and you'll be able to read them when you first log in to myKindo after their publication.
What about ezlunch refunds or account closures?
Refunds from ezlunch caterers (or other non-school providers) can only be offered as an account credit.
Refunds from school are provided as an account credit, and can be withdrawn if required.
This applies when closing your account too... so be sure to spend balances or only top up what you need!
What do I need to do?
If you've got plenty of time with kids at ezlunch or Kindo schools - nothing to do. Just carry on as normal.
If you're about to move on to a non-ezlunch, non-Kindo school AND you have a credit balance - plan to spend it before you leave or withdraw it before the terms change on 31 July. You can withdraw using the 'top up account' page. Only top up what you need for each transaction and remember to stop any direct credits!
How do I withdraw my balance?
Login to myKindo and go to the “top up account” page. You will see a button there to withdraw your balance.
