From Ms. O's Desk

Dear Quetzal Families,

Tomorrow we celebrate Veterans Day! It is a very important day for us to honor, celebrate and be grateful to all of our Veterans who who have served our nation and ensured we are safe in this amazing country. This is a great opportunity to talk to your children about their service and being grateful to them, as it aligns with our value of the month: gratitude. Let's remember what Wallace Bruce said, "Who kept the faith and fought the fight; the glory theirs, the duty ours."

Next week, at Mistral, we ALL unite against hate! At school, we will have different activities throughout the week to show our support and be models of acceptance of our differences and celebrate the joy of diversity!

Beginning next week, our students and staff will work with Sown to Grow as a partner to help support the social, emotional, and academic growth of our students. Sown to Grow is a student goal-setting and reflection platform that empowers learners while building critical emotional and academic skills. Each week, students check-in on how they are feeling and reflect on the strategies that are working best for them (or new ones to try). Check-ins start with a focus on emotional wellbeing, and expand to social-emotional skills and academic goal-setting over time. Teachers, principals, and counselors see real-time reporting on students’ emotions and can proactively reach out to support student needs.

This platform serves thousands of students and teachers nationally, and is funded by the US Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, and Digital Promise (a national nonprofit focused on impact and innovation in schools).

Thank you to all of our PTA members and parents for helping out with the Walkathon, and for making it a great event. I really enjoyed it! If you haven't done so yet, please send your pledges to our PTA.

Remember to join us at our next Parent University this coming Tuesday, November 15. It was great to see so many parents last week.

I hope you all have a lovely long weekend!

In partnership,

Claudia Olaciregui, Principal
