Welcome Back
2022-23 School Year
Updated: Saturday, August 20th
Principal's Desk
Hello Monticello Students and Families,
I hope that you are enjoying the beautiful weather that we are having this summer. Our staff is anxiously awaiting your return on Wednesday, August 31st to begin the new school year. We are excited to provide you an opportunity to grow socially, emotionally and academically. One of our goals is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment where ALL students feel connected to Monticello. This year, we will work hand in hand with you to achieve this goal.
Last year, our staff worked hard to overcome the learning loss that took place during the pandemic. I am proud to announce that Monticello led the district in reading and math growth based on iReady assessment results at the middle school level. This is a direct result of hard work and perseverance. At Monticello, we call this grit. Grit has always been a characteristic that sets our school apart from others.
As we embark on a new year and new challenges, we realize that it takes a collaborative effort between the school, the home and the community to help students be successful. With your support, we promise to provide ALL students with the necessary resources to help them reach their full learning potential. We ask that you support your student by ensuring they attend school daily, they complete their assigned work and you monitor their progress throughout the year. Our teachers welcome two-way communication to help meet the needs of your student.
Monticello Mission Statement
We believe we make a difference in the lives of our students by providing a safe and supportive environment where ALL students receive a high-quality, comprehensive education that inspires them to become life-long learners and equips them with the skills and knowledge to succeed in high school and beyond.
We encourage everyone to be actively involved in the educational process. Students have an opportunity to participate in several clubs and extra-curricular activities, while parents are encouraged to volunteer in the school or join the PTO. We have several committees that need parent and student input. They meet once a month on Tuesdays from 2:40-3:40pm. If you would like additional information, please check out our school website at https://monticello.longviewschools.com/ or follow us on facebook @monticellomiddleschool.

QUICK PARENT SURVEY-ONE QUESTION
The last week in August, I will be working with my staff to create a school that focuses on meeting the needs of ALL of our students. We are requesting that you take the one question survey linked below. It should take less than 5 minutes to complete, but will help us understand what is important to you for your child.
QUESTION
What do you want most for your child from our staff when you send them to school? In other words, what do you look for in a middle school?

Parents/Guardians: sports physicals are usually good for two years. If your student is planning on participating in sports this year, please make sure they have a current physical on file at the school that is good until the end of the school year.
If not, then contact us at 360-575-7055 or 360-575-7041 to schedule your student for a physical. You can also reach Mrs. Herndandez at the following email address chernandez@longview.k12.wa.us
Parents/guardians are expected to be at the physical with their student. If that is not possible, then the parent will be expected to stop by the school ahead of time and complete the necessary paperwork.
The number of appointments are limited, so please contact us as soon as possible to set up your appointment. If by chance we do not have very many students sign up, we will offer this service to students at other middle schools in Longview.
