9th Grade Online November 16th - Thanksgiving Break
Due to the increase of staff absences for close contact tracing and the increase of positive student cases in the grade level, the 9th grade will be closed through Thanksgiving Break. Daily instruction will continue digitally, and students will be contacted by their teachers on Monday to cover directions and expectations. Lunch will be available to 9th grade students each day. If your student would like lunch, please call the Front Office each day by 9:00 am. Students arriving to pick up lunch will need to check in through the Front Office. 9th grade students may return to school on Monday, November 30th. During this closure, your child will become a digital learner and will not be counted absent. Furthermore, if your 9th grade student is an athlete, he or she will be allowed to participate in their athletic events unless he or she is quarantined. If you have another child in our district, that sibling is not required to isolate unless either child becomes symptomatic or receives a positive COVID-19 test result.
If during this closure your child exhibits symptoms of COVID -19, please contact the school clinic for additional guidance. Please do not send your student back to school if they exhibit symptoms or are awaiting the results of a COVID test.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take precautions and implement restrictions to provide safe and healthy learning environments.
MJHS Cafeteria
Students receive one free breakfast and one free lunch, per day. MJHS offers four lunch options. The boxed meal, pizza, chicken slider, or PBJ Uncrustable all come with a fruit and veggie. Students choose one for their free meal.
Students must pay for extras. An extra pizza is $3.00, an extra chicken slider $1.50, an extra PBJ is $1.50, and an extra box lunch is $2.25. Chips, ice cream, tea, canned and boxed juices cost extra. Milk comes with meal.
Students must stand in line and let the cashier see what they are getting before they sit down.
Morning Arrival & Temperature Checks
MJHS adjusted temperature check frequency beginning Monday, September 14th. Through the first 6 weeks of school we had no incident where a student was identified with a temperature at drop off. We fully attribute this to the diligence of our families to screen their children and keep them home should they have a fever, or a preponderance of symptoms. Because of this, we will reduce our temperature check frequency to 2 to 3 times per week. Temperature check days will be each Monday and Thursday, with the possibility of a randomly selected day. We will review temperature screening data every two weeks and make further adjustments (more or less) as the data informs.
All returning students (with a COVID-19 positive diagnosis or close contact isolated) will be re-admitted through the school clinic and asked several health questions to confirm absence of symptoms. Likewise, these students may be provided more frequent health and fever checks upon the return to school.
Supervised Study Hall
Morning - Room 220 7:30 - 8:10 a.m.
Afternoon - Library 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
After School Supervised Study Hall has been canceled until December.

Testing Calendar
Face coverings (masks or shields) are required on the buses. Administrators will work with bus drivers to promote and hold accountable this expectation. Masks will be supplied on the buses for student use. Students with health concerns will work with school administrators for exemption of this expectation.
Traditional Learners
MJHS is currently offering daily, onsite campus instruction. The next opportunity for families to change their instructional delivery option will be Winter Break. We must have your request to switch before noon, December 15th. This will allow your student to switch instruction type on January 5th, upon returning from Winter Break. Families will have additional opportunities to make a change at spring break. We are still requesting families to only make one instructional delivery change per year.
Traditional Students Who Are Currently Quarantined - Traditional students who are currently quarantined, this is a reminder to check your email daily and to log into Canvas daily for each course to complete work. Teachers will take attendance through completed assignments and Canvas Analytics. Digital Learning requires engagement every day in order to stay current in all of your classes.
Digital Learners
Digital Attendance:
Beginning on Monday, November 2nd, Digital Learners will be required to login to Canvas and complete the attendance link for each class, every day, by 10 am. By doing this, PowerSchool will generate a phone call that goes home each evening when students are marked absent. Families will then have a chance to address absences in real time. We are hopeful this change in our process will improve communication and support between Maryville Junior High School and families. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we adjust.

Q: What requirements will be in place for Basketball Season?
A: MJHS Basketball - Out of an abundance of caution, MJHS will begin limiting ticket sales to basketball games. In order to ensure spectators have ample seating while maintaining social distancing guidelines, there will only be 240 tickets sold each night. Once 240 tickets have been sold the entrance and ticket booth will be closed with notification posted on entrance doors. In the past two years, we have not had a game where the attendance reached 240, so we hope that this does not prevent anyone's entrance, but we wanted to ensure that all fans who wanted to attend were notified of the possibility of tickets being sold out.
On top of this regulation, MJHS will continue the following precautionary measures at all basketball games to ensure all in attendance are kept safe and that there is no interruption in the 20-21 season:
- everyone in attendance will have their temperature taken upon entry
- masks will be required unless playing in the game or under two years of age
- all the bleachers will be marked to follow appropriate social distancing
- athlete seating will be spaced to follow appropriate social distancing
- concessions will only serve pre-packaged snacks and drinks
- ticket booth and concessions will have a plexiglass barrier from those attending
- cheerleaders will remain masked during the game
Thank you for your support by helping us ensure all of these guidelines are met.
