NEWS and NOTES
Our vision will be at the top of each SOAR Report...and should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Speaking of our vision, I know conversations have began around academic goals for students in your classroom. As BOY assessment cycles (DIBELS, RAPS360) get started, we need to aim high for student achievement!! Developing, communicating, and progress monitoring grade level/classroom SMART Goals are crucial to meeting these high expectations. Take a look at the video about SMART Goals below in the DIY Section (credit to Ms. Bragg). Ms. Raynor also has a cool Flocabulary video about SMART Goals for students (I know she won't mind sharing!).
We have made a few adjustments to the master schedule as we have received feedback and observed some areas of the building. It is uploaded in the staff handbook, as well as attached to this email. Continue to push tight transitions to make sure we are making it to our assigned locations on time to avoid congestion.
We will hold our Open House on Thursday, August 11th from 5:00-7:00 pm. We will start in the cafeteria to review Title I information and allow parents to meet support staff. This will last approximately 30 mins. After the presentation, we will release parents to your classrooms to get the opportunity to meet you and learn more about how you will support their child's learning this year.
Please plan to wear your Cardinal T-shirts and jeans Friday, August 12th to celebrate the second week of school. If you need a shirt, please let me know!
