President's Message:
Thank You for all the donations for the Food Drive. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Coley for coordinating and managing the collection and delivery of the donations.
The Giving Garden is always open. Feel free to stop by anytime to view the garden, help with weeding, planting and harvesting. Mrs. Cancro is looking for a volunteer to write a monthly or every other month update on the garden to keep MCES students and parents informed about what is happening in the garden. This is the last week of October and many PTA deadlines are approaching. Both Reflections Art Contest submissions an Spirit Wear Orders are due by Friday October 31.
Congratulations to all the class Spelling Bee Winners. Looking forward to the MCES Spelling Bee on December 6th.

2014 REFLECTIONS ART CONTEST - FINAL WEEK TO SUBMIT ENTRIES!
This year’s theme “The World Would Be A Better Place If...”
All entries must be dropped off at school no later than this Friday, October 31st. For your convenience, students and parents may drop off their entries in the big black Reflections drop box located in the front office. Also, there will be volunteers in the front lobby this week to collect your child's artwork in person and answer any questions from 8-8:30am and 2:30-3pm this Wed, Thurs & Fri.
A Reflections Family & Friends Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 20th from 6:30 – 8:00pm in the Gym. In addition to announcing 24 MCES Finalists who will be selected by outside judges, every student who participates will receive a ribbon from Mrs. Parrish. Extra blank entry forms available in the front office.
Students may submit as many entries as desired, in as many categories they choose: Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Dance Choreography, Music Composition and Film Production.

Last Week to Order Spirit Wear!!!
This is your last week to order your Spiritwear! MCES has a new design for this year, plus new items like a long sleeve t-shirt and mesh shorts. A sample shirt with the new design is hanging in the hall near the office. Youth and adult sizes are available!
Order forms have been distributed to all tracks…and track 4 will get a reminder form in Tuesday folders this week. All forms are due on or before October 31st.

Food Drive Success!!
Thanks to all of you, the food drive was a big success! We not only met, but surpassed our goal of collecting 1,200 lbs. of food, and in the process, students have earned a Crazy Hat Day! Congratulations, students! The date for this special fun day will be announced soon.
We collected 1,366 lbs. of donations, which will help the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina provide over 1,000 meals for people in our community. MCES has shown how much we care. Thank you to all the students and their families for their many donations!
A big thank you, also, to volunteers Missy Balleydier, Jim Coley, Stephanie Dudra, Debbie Flanigan, and Elizabeth Guertin for packing the many donations, to Julia Coley for her help, and to Jim Coley for driving the donations to the Food Bank! As always, we could not do this without the support of Mrs. Parrish, who lends us her office in which to pack and store the donations every year; the MCES front office personnel, with special thanks to Ms. Carter; and the many other PTA volunteers who help get the word out for us!

School Store Needs Volunteers:
School Store is looking for a few volunteers from tracks 1 and 2 to run the store on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. if you can help, please contact Stephanie Petty , stephaniepettyrn@yahoo.com
Tuesdays: K-2 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25amThursdays: 3-5 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
The school store sells little pencils, erasers, fun little school items for kids to purchase - prices range from $0.10 - $2.00, so kids can easily afford to buy something even with a little bit of pocket change. It is located at the end of the main hallway, adjacent to the 2nd grade hallway.
Science Olympiad:
Any student in grades 3-5 can join Science Olympiad and take advantage of this great
opportunity to learn about science and prepare for upcoming science requirements.
