Monday Memo (COVID-19 Edition #2)
Week of April 6-9: Central's Newsletter for Teachers & Staff
Moving Forward! #ONEcentral
Hello Panthers!
Tuesday will be a mandatory Zoom call (check your email invitation from Syples) where we will discuss some important topics and share more about attendance and grades for the 4th marking period. We will have a lot to cover, so we will share from the meeting agenda first and ask you to hold all questions till the end with the hopes that many of your questions will be answered in the presentation. We will be adding and tweaking a few things, but we are here to help and I have no doubt our kids are getting the best from our teachers here at Central!
I have not required lesson plans, as you you have been learning an online platform and it is set-up really like an outline of your daily work. I am checking your classrooms and you should be interacting with students each day. Remember we are working from home. Many are doing an amazing job...I would say most. So keep up the good work everyone!
Thank you for your continued patience as we have been adjusting and parents have been adjusting to this completely new situation. We can make it through this together.
Your Principal,
Cynthia

Thorn and Rose:
Students can choose their level of vulnerability: A rose can simply be “the weather is nice today.” A low-stakes thorn might be “I feel tired.” Yet many students choose to share more personal items: “My rose is that even though I’m stressed out, I got all my homework done” or “My thorn is that my dog is sick and I’m really worried about her.”

Post A Schedule
Making a weekly or daily schedule will help parents and students complete assignments. Yours may be written such as the document I posted from 3rd grade or it could be daily videos like 5th grade. Be creative and do what works for you.
Need Help?
Ms. Donnell, Ms. Miller, and Ms. Covington come to mind and I am sure there are more who are happy to help. Ask your team for support first and please feel free to contact Ms. Syples if you need help. She either knows it or will figure it out.

Our Commitment and Pledge to Central Instruction
Together we commit to working hard to make sure instruction and assignments are both rigorous and engaging. We will continue setting the bar (grade-level standards) high and placing that intellectual lift on our students. This is the key to mastering complex material.
Time and time again, research has shown that when students are given access to four critical classroom level resources, they can and will make BIG academic gains.
- Grade-appropriate assignments (Rigor of the Standards)
- Strong instruction that lets students do most of the thinking in the lesson (facilitate with probing questions- most of the talking should be the students)
- A sense of deep engagement in what they're learning
- Teachers who hold high expectations for ALL students and truly believe they can meet grade-level standards (Set the bar high)
Every student will receive daily access to challenging, engaging, and grade-appropriate work. With each day that passes we will refine our skills to the best of the best in our profession! We will focus daily on what our students are learning and doing, we will strengthen our belief about what students can accomplish.
Together we are committed. Together we are Central. We are #ONECENTRAL
