Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
February 23, 2019
This past week it felt like back to business as usual, and even though it was a four day work week... it still felt like a full five!
Tuesday's all school mass seemed to deliver a message that could be applied to anyone at any time in their life... When Father Twenty spoke about how we need to appreciate where we are and what is going on around us in the moment, rather than worrying about what we thought we were missing or what we thought we would rather be doing, it seemed like a lot of heads were nodding. So often, we do not appreciate what is right in front of us and end up missing out on what God was trying to share with us! In this busy world of technology, it seems that everywhere you turn, you see a person with their head buried in their phone and not even paying attention to what is going on around them. We really do need to be present in every moment God gives us. Whether it's at work, at home, or even around the dinner table... this will allow us to really soak in the moments God has planned for us and we will be much more aware of the direction He wants us to go. Thank you, Father Twenty, for opening our eyes to what's right in front of us!
The rest of this past week included a host of meetings that allowed members to really dive into planning, collaborating, and analyzing the current and future initiatives that will help move Marian to the next level! The Technology Committee met with a representative from Skooler, which is one of many options to provide teachers, students, and parents with a Learning Management System that helps consolodate all things regarding their classes while utilizing their devices. Rediker Training guided individals in understanding how to effectively build student schedules. Other discussions included focusing on the most efficient way to collect and redistribute student devices, budgets, and strategic planning. At our March 5 Late Start Meeting, each Administrator and Director will be sharing some of the things they have been working on to ensure all of our Staffulty are aware of what's going on here at Marian.
Wednesday evening was a night of celebration as we recognized our Seniors from Cheer, Dance, Fencing, and Managers! Check out the pictures below!
Both this past Wednesday night and this coming Sunday afternoon will be Freshmen Registration for the 2019-20 school year. On Wednesday we had 67 families scheduled and 68 showed. We are anticipating several more families this Sunday as well as through the end of this school year and into the summer. Overall, families were very positive and excited to join the Marian Central family.
The week ended with a cheer out for the Wrestling Team as they traveled to State Competition. As we await the final results for them, we are also looking forward to hearing how our Math Team does at Regionals in Rockford this Saturday, as well as the successes of service as the Key Club holds their second Marian Cares event! There is no question that amazing things are occurring on a daily basis here at Marian Central!
Looking ahead...
Can you believe it's going to be March on Friday? The weather is not very convincing!
Although we will be dealing with a slightly shortened schedule due to this Monday's Pep Rally, it really is important to recognize the hard work our students are doing both inside and outside of the classroom. We, as a high school, have always prided ourselves in ensuring a well-rounded experience for our students... so when our Chess and Wrestling Teams reach State Competition level, it's certainly something to celebrate! Thank you for continuing to encourage all students to experience a variety of things through their high school experience, and for being an intregal part of that through coaching, mentoring, and sponsoring these clubs and events!
The annual ICE Conference (for technology) is upon us! We have many teachers attending at least one of the four day conference. Rest assurred, the attendees will be bringing back a host of new technolgy techniques and perspectives to share with all!
If you signed up for your free personal Wellness Screening through the Diocese, Wednesday's the day! Please make sure you are not late for your appointment... Here's to your Health!
Thursday evening, Guidance will be hosting a College Fair at Marian Central from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. Families will learn about starting a college search, financial aid, and choosing a major. Students and families will also attend a question and answer session about college admission with a panel of college admission officers.
Finally, two more events round out the upcoming weekend... Friday evening one of our Theater 2 students is debuting her own original play, with fellow students acting in it! If you get a chance... come watch and cheer on our students! Saturday, many of our music students will be competing in the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest at Harvard High School.... Best of luck to all!
Have a wonderful week...
