Blue Hills News
From the Desk of the Principal - October 8, 2020
Dear Blue Hills Families,
So much changes on a daily and weekly basis, it can seem hard to keep up! Thank you for your patience and perseverance through the first several weeks of the school year.
Superintendent Rossetti sent out an important communication earlier today. If you have not read it, please take a few minutes to read this important letter: Letter from Superintendent Rossetti.
Please review this schedule change for next week:
Wednesday, October 14, will be an in-person day for Grade 9 (vocational day, 7:40 - 2:20); Remote academic students (grades 10 and 12) will follow the Green Day Schedule. Remote vocational students (grade 11) will follow their normal remote vocational schedule. This is due to the holiday on Columbus Day. Our deep cleaning schedule will be adjusted this week, and will take place Wednesday afternoon and evening prior to Thursday's cohort returning to school.
Each week, I will send out the following week's schedule of in-person learning. We will try to keep at least 10 days ahead, but please be flexible as we know that data and information can change quickly.
Logistics & Reminders:
Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures:
- Please enter through the East entrance (closest to Randolph) and pull in front of the cafeteria/gym to drop off and pick up. Drop offs before 7:40 should go into the cafeteria. Dropoffs after 7:40 should go into the school through the main entrance. Please exit out the main entrance.
Reminders:
- Students on buses - you MUST wear a mask and remain physically distanced the entire time you are on the bus.
- Masks must be worn during the school day unless directed by the teacher (mask break, breakfast, lunch, etc.).
- When a student is attending school in-person, please make sure that you are checking and certifying that your student is symptom-free, according to the self-check guidelines.
Attendance Guidelines
- Remember that attendance is required for all remote learning - failure to attend classes during the day will lead to an absence and potentially a zero on schoolwork. If you are having a difficult time with technology at home, contact IT@bluehills.org.
- Going to work during the school day and missing classes is not an excused absence - it is considered truancy and will lead to a zero for your school work.
- Not only is attendance required for all remote learning, but students need to log in early to their classes so that class can begin on time without disruption. Please be sure you are leaving enough time for yourself to get ready and prepared for class.
- Dismissals - If you are dismissing your child on an in-person day, please send a note with them that day or email jpica@bluehills.org. We are trying to limit the number of people in the building. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Geoff Zini
Principal

Physical Education & Health/Wellness
Please Note: Physical Education/Health is required! Students need to make sure they are following the schedule and accessing a physical education or health class as directed.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Lunches
All students will receive free lunch and breakfast through December 31, 2020. However, we are still collecting applications for free and reduced lunch so that begining in January there is no lapse in service for students who qualify. Please fill out the form and return it to cfama@bluehills.org.
What remote schedule am I following???
Vocational "Remote" Days - these all look the same! If you are on a vocational week and are remote, simply follow your shop's instructions for the synchronous meeting times (8:30 and 1:30, usually) and work independently or as needed during the day. Failure to attend both synchronous sessions will lead to the student being marked as "absent" and potentially receiving no credit for the day.
Academic "Remote" Days -
- "Blue Days" - Mostly on Mondays and Thursdays. Refer to the released schedule to make sure you have the right day. On these days, you'll meet "live" with periods 1-4. The rest of your day is extra help and independent work.
- "Green Days" - Mostly on Tuesdays and Fridays - Refer to the released schedule to make sure you have the right day. On these days, you'll meet "live" with periods 5-8. The rest of your day is extra help and independent work.
- "Wednesdays" - On Wednesdays, follow the Wednesday schedule! You'll meet with all of your academic classes throughout the day. HINT: We may occassionally use this schedule on other days, or schedule Wednesday to be in-person.
For both vocational and academic "remote" days: Please remember that school runs from 7:48 to 2:20. At any time in this period of time, you can be asked to meet with a teacher, attend a session, or do extra help/support activities. If class begins at 8:30 or 9:00, you may very well have things to do and prepare for prior to the start time. Be diligent in checking your email and google classroom. Getting an education is your "job" right now, and is the best investment you can make at this stage of life!
