Duties
Chemists are scientists who study the properties of substances. There are four basic areas of chemistry: organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical. Many chemists specialize in one of these fields.
Hours and Conditions
Most chemists work 40 hours a week. They usually work in modern laboratories, in offices, and in classrooms. Chemists follow safety regulations because some of the chemicals they use are dangerous.
There are less and less chemists every year, chemistry needs more chemists!
Pros and Cons
Chemists enjoy being creative in their job. They also think that the work is challenging. But they feel that the routine nature of some jobs can be a disadvantage.
