ConVal School Nurse Newsletter

April 2021

Spring is officially here!

With just about 10 weeks left in this school year,

we are looking forward to beautiful weather, flowers, and buds on the trees.

Heading into allergy season...

Allergies or COVID-19?

Allergy symptoms and COVID-19 symptoms are very similar.

If you have not already done so this school year, please ask your student's healthcare provider to provide your school nurse with documentation confirming your student's allergies and typical symptoms.

Providing updated physicals...

Does your student have an appointment for a physical coming up?

Your school nurse does not automatically receive a copy of your student's physical from their physician. When your student has an appointment for an annual physical, please ask for a copy to provide to your school nurse so they may update your student's health record.

Updated travel guidance

On March 16th, the NH DHHS provided updated travel guidance that removes the quarantine requirement for travel within the United States...

  • Domestic travel within the U.S. outside of New England no longer requires quarantine upon return to NH, although people are recommended to still follow CDC’s travel guidance, including wearing a well-fitted face mask while traveling, practicing social distancing, getting tested 3-5 days after travel (with a molecular or PCR-based test), and limiting public interactions after travel (even if not required to quarantine).

  • Travelers/visitors to AND residents of NH need to self-quarantine for 10 days after the last date of any international travel (except for essential travel to/from Canada*), or travel on a cruise ship.

  • Exceptions to Travel Quarantine

    • The following people do NOT need to quarantine after international travel or travel on a cruise ship:

      • Persons who are 14 days or more beyond completion of COVID-19 vaccination - this means a person must be at least 14 days beyond receipt of the second dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, or at least 14 days beyond receipt of the single-dose Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine.

      • Persons who are within 90 days of a prior SARS-CoV-2 infection that was diagnosed by PCR or antigen testing.

**Regardless of prior infection or vaccination status, any person with new or unexplained symptoms of COVID-19 still must stay home and isolate, and contact their PCP for further guidance and testing**

Changes to daily screening questions

Our daily COVID-19 screening questions have changed a bit as a result of the state changes...

In an effort to remain diligent in the fight to reduce the incidence of COVID-19 in our schools and communities, we continue to ask parents to please screen your students for symptoms at home before leaving for school and we will continue our screening protocol when they arrive to school.

Is your student experiencing any of the following symptoms?

■ Fever and chills

■ Cough

■ Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

■ Fatigue

■ Muscle or body aches

■ Headaches

■ New loss of taste or smell

■ Sore throat, congestion, or runny nose

■ Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

Has your student had close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 10 days?

Has your student, during the previous 10 days, traveled internationally or by cruise ship?

better weather means more time outside!

  • Parents are reminded to apply sunscreen and/or bug spray at home before arriving to school as our students are able to spend more time outside.
  • Hats and sunglasses are also encouraged as we enjoy more hours of sunshine!
  • With more time spent outside, don't forget to check regularly for ticks!
