A Great Start
First here are links to the first two Warrior Bulletins
We have had a great start to school. Students and staff have worked hard to learn some new routines in the building and are being champions regarding the three W's-Wear a mask, Wash your hands, Watch your distance. Help us by practicing these three W's as a family when you are in other public places in our community. These are important behaviors for us as a community to keep moving toward a more normal school experience.
Extended Campus and Remote Learning Details
We wanted to clarify some expectations regarding extended campus students and also students who are alphabetically not attending on a given day due to the rotation of groups.
- Teachers are making contacts with both of these groups of students using WebEx.
- This has already included joining class by WebEx and some small group and individual meetings.
- Between 8-3:10 M-F staff can schedule online meetings with students who are not in the building.
- Teachers have been directed to take attendance for these scheduled, virtual meetings.
- Our intent is to have more regular contact and support for students even when they are not physically in the building.
Attendance Requirements
The Nebraska Department of Education requires schools to take regular attendance. This process is fairly straightforward when we are in regular school sessions. The yellow schedule creates some issues with taking regular attendance. I would like to explain the process we are using to take attendance and to request some grace and communication.
- Teachers are marking absences for days of physical attendance on the day of the week the student attends not on the class schedule day. Last Thursday an absent student would be marked absent on Thursday for the class in PowerSchool, not Monday(Day 1).
- Teachers are marking attendance for days and times when they set up virtual meetings online with students. This applies to both students who are on extended campus learning and for other students who it is not their scheduled attendance day. If your student was invited/scheduled to attend online, we will mark an absence if not in the session.
- We are also using attendance marks to indicate if a student has not completed work expected to be completed at home. This is a quick way for us to flag students who are not completing work at home. Think of it as a virtual learning engagement measure. We just want to make sure we reach out and support in a timely manner if a student is not engaging with work at home.
- We are working hard to mark traditional attendance on the day a student attends in person or online and use the other days of the student's week to mark engagement with assigned tasks at home.
- This will be more complex than normal. If we make a mistake, please email the teacher and the dean for your student. We will correct.
Laptop Computer Updates
Many students were able to complete the computer updates at home. Other students have struggled for a variety of reasons. If your student has not completed these updates, please have them do so as soon as possible. If he/she runs into problems with the update, please bring the computer to the Tech Office at WHS. The Tech Office is open 8-4 M-F.
You should be able to find these three things on the computer if it is completely updated.
- Mac OS Catalina under the Apple Menu--About the Mac.
- Mosyle Manager
- Cisco Webex Meet and Teams.
Athletic Event Attendance
The Metro Conference following the guidelines of the Nebraska School Activities Association and the Douglas and Sarpy County Health Departments, have set up the following guidelines for event attendance.
- Four family members of each event participant can attend an event as well as event personnel.
- Each participant will receive a permit/voucher for the family to purchase up to 4 tickets for an event.
- The voucher is specific to the level the student plays at--JV, Varsity, Freshman.
- At this time no other students, staff, or community members will be able to attend Metro Conference events.
- Masks are required and attendees need to practice good social distancing guidelines.
Boys and Girls Club Closed for High School Students
We wanted to notify you that the Boys & Girls Club will not be available for WHS students until further notice. The club is only allowing a small number of students into their facilities as they try to de-densify to the best of their ability. We will update you when the club will be able to support more students and have high school students return.
