TURNING BYSTANDERS INTO UPSTANDERS...
Bystanders often play a significant role in bullying situations. If your child sees bullying happen, what options do they have? Here are some suggestions that you can discuss with your child:
· Don’t laugh or join in because this makes you part of the problem
· If you feel safe, tell the child doing the bullying: To stop, It isn’t funny, You don’t like it, It isn’t kind or respectful.
· Don’t bully back
· Support the child being bullied by checking in with them and telling them that you are sorry that this happened to them
· If you are friends with the child who bullies, try to talk to them about it and encourage them to stop
· Encourage your friends not to participate
· Most importantly, tell an adult at school and home
Children can use their influence positively to build a safer learning environment and support each other.

During the month of January, Unami's Student Council is sponsoring a collection for The Giving Tree as part of Martin Luther King's Day of Service. The Giving Tree is a local community service organization and Unami's Student Council will be working in collaboration with them by collecting donations of socks (specifically men's white, black, or white crew/tube socks), packs of crackers (cheese, not peanut butter!), and granola bars (again, no peanuts).
These donations will be distributed at a variety of shelters throughout the Doylestown, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
Each homeroom will collect these items until January 25th. The homeroom that collects the most (per grade) will get a reward of soft pretzels, and the winning homeroom overall will get a pizza party.
Unami students are devoted to serving their community. CLICK HERE for more information on this non-profit organization.
INSTRUCTIONAL SPOTLIGHTS
This year, along with our newsletter, we will be "tweeting" out photos and 144 character descriptions of all the fabulous happenings in our community. You can easily filter these "tweets" by using the district's new CB Mobile App.
MS. MILLER'S STUDENTS PREPARE FOR AN EMOTIONAL READ
Students in Ms. Miller's 9th grade Advanced English class visited the library computer lab this week to engage in some background research about The Holocaust on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's website. Students researched information to answer a series of questions about the Holocaust and the horrific rationale behind one of the darkest chapters of world history. All of this was in preparation for the reading of Elie Wiesel's Night, a first-hand account of a concentration camp survivor. Although we lost Mr. Wiesel just this past summer, his biographical account of the horrors of The Holocaust will serve as an important resource for learning for generations to come. Check out Ms. Miller's students as they work on their webquests below.

On Monday, the girls played a tough Tamanend team and fell just short of moving on to the next round. Alyssa D. played great defense while Bri. B. had a strong offensive game. Great season ladies!
Wrestling: Unami took on Holicong in wrestling on Tuesday. Leo M. earned two wins while Noah S. had a hard fought match. Great job team!
