News from the Principal
Dear Discovery Families,
It’s hard to believe winter is upon us and a new year is about to begin. As we look ahead to the upcoming holidays and prepare to welcome a new (and hopefully better) year, I want to thank each of you. Thank you for the support you provide to your children and their learning, and also for the support you provide to our Discovery staff. This year has been a challenge for everyone and we appreciate ALL of the encouragement students and staff have received from families.
Discovery is a great place for teaching and learning, and I am proud to be part of such a caring and committed community. We all want the best for our children and we know it takes working together to provide the greatest opportunities for each of them. On behalf of the students and staff at Discovery Elementary School, thank you for your time, effort, and dedication. Here’s wishing you and your family a safe, healthy and peaceful holiday season.
I look forward to working with each of you in 2021.
In partnership,
Mrs. Koehnen
Proud Principal
SIGN-UP NOW - Toy Donations from Toys for Tots
We know the holidays can be a stressful time of year for many families, especially with the devastating effects of COVID-19. This is why we are excited to share that Discovery Elementary has received a generous donation of 600 toys from the Everett Toys for Tots! These toys are geared towards children ages 3-12 and will be made available by appointment to our Discovery families.
If you have a need for holiday gifts this year, we encourage you to sign up to receive gifts from Toys for Tots. Please complete the survey (SEE LINK BELOW) no later than this Friday, December 4th. Surveys will be time-stamped and appointments to “shop” for toys will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Toys are intended for children living in your household. There is no guarantee we will be able to accommodate everyone’s needs, but we will do our best to serve as many families as we can. The gifts are expected to arrive the week of December 14th and our outdoor gift pick-up event will likely take place December 16th - 18th. Social-distancing protocols and the use of face masks will be reinforced.

A Message from our School Nurse
Life is full of special moments that you remember for years. It may be as simple as enjoying a peaceful afternoon at the beach or laughing until your belly hurts. Things are not always easy, but it is nice to take a step back and remember what you are most grateful for. A helpful way to do this is by completing a 30 days of gratitude challenge!
This time of year is an opportunity to reflect on what we are thankful for. Despite the limits on gatherings let’s try and take in every moment that we can fully. Maybe it’s the magical colors of fall leaves and the brisk air on a cold, crisp day. Or the fact that the holidays are coming up soon, cozy fires in our fireplaces, and all those scented candles! But most of all, let’s be thankful for our family and friends. We are so lucky to have them in our lives.
The “little things” are truly amazing. Here is a 30-day gratitude challenge. I hope that it inspires you to find the beauty of this holiday season!
