Shuksan Families,
We have enjoyed seeing the Gr6 and Gr7 students who have returned for in person learning. It's cool how we can detect smiles-- even with masks on. We are reminding ourselves and each other to stay 6' apart : the length of a yoga mat, a cow, a full-grown lion...
We will continue to do our best to create a sense of belonging for all students at Shuksan. Whether or not you see us in person, we want families and students to know that we care and we are here for you.
One way we connect with students is through weekly ASB announcements. ASB students and staff record the weekly announcements and they are watched in homeroom on Wednesdays. Not only do these remind students of safety protocols, but they also promote school-wide activities and fun (see picture below).
As you wonder about district decisions or the ideas for 21-22 school year, we encourage you to watch Dr. Baker's latest video . In this video, he highlights students' return to schools and answers many questions.
If you have any questions, we want to answer them. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Brag Alert! From the Music Stand of Jenny Rothnie
"Hello!
In the midst of the craziness, pause and enjoy: https://bellingham.wistia.com/medias/xzedzwbytu
This is a combined effort from all 4 middle schools. These 7th grade band students really only had about 5.5 months of in-person instruction on their instruments before everything was shut down. And yet they still are able to make some awesome music!
These kids blow me away and are amazing! 🙂
Signed,
Proud band teacher"
