Kirk Fenton News

17th July 2020

Please look on our website for up-to-date information.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Well, we've made it to the end of another school year - how quickly they seem to go by! It hardly seems any time since we were starting the new year back in September, what little we knew then about how this year would go!

For all it's difficulties, this year has also seen a lot of positives. We were graded as a 'Good' school early in the year through our Church school inspection (SIAMS) and we have worked hard to complete our new curriculum ready to launch this September. We have had babies born to Mr Symes and to Mrs Young and we are about to have many repairs and upgrades to our school building over the holidays. We have worked closely with the other schools within the STAR MAT whilst developing our own identity and school family and our pupils have weathered the COVID storm with resilience and hard work. Parents have been wonderful in your support both for your children and for the school and its staff. We can't wait to see you all back in school in September - details have been emailed out today and are on our school website.

We are sad to say goodbye to our Year 6 today. We have watched them grow over their time at Kirk Fenton and we know they will be amazing learners and wonderful people at high school. We wish them every good wish for their future studies and I look forward to seeing them when I visit.

We will also be saying a fond farewell to Mrs Holmes who is returning to Appleton Roebuck, although she will still be around school as she is staying on as our SENDco and will be a regular visitor to school every other week.

Finally, I want to again thank all the wonderful, hard working team here at Kirk Fenton. I am so proud to work with such a great team of people who want nothing but the best for the children they teach. I cannot express my gratitude for all they have done especially over these last few strange months and I look forward to starting the new year with all the exciting new lessons they have planned.

Have a restful break,

Mrs Karen Williams

Summer Reading Challenge - June to September 2020

The Summer Reading Challenge is in an online format this year running from June to September. Children can sign up to create a free online account with their own avatar and this year's theme is: The Silly Squad.

Website link:

Website link to info for parents:

The digital Challenge is free to access, featuring games, quizzes and digital and downloadable activities to incentivise and encourage children and their families to take part in treading related activities at home. Although library buildings are closed, libraries will also continue to deliver the Challenge through virtual services and e-lending platforms.

With school life disrupted and many children missing the company of their friends, this year’s fun-filled Summer Reading Challenge will be all the more vital as a way of helping parents and carers find fun, family-friendly activities, maintain literacy levels and create a safe space for children to connect with their peers.

We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy summer break and hope to be able to start making plans for the new academic year when we return in September.

News from St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton and the Tadcaster Benefice

This has been a very unusual term for all of us and everyone at St. Mary’s wishes you all the best for the summer and we all hope that you manage to have a good summer holiday. You have been in our prayers throughout lockdown and we will continue to pray for you, especially for our Year 6 children, anyone else who is moving to a different school, and those who will be starting in Reception.

Throughout July and August, we will hold a service each Sunday at 8.00am in St. Mary’s TADCASTER. We will continue to hold services on Zoom each Sunday at 10.00am – details are below.

Looking towards August and September, some of our plans haven’t yet been finalised so it’s hard to say what we will be doing.

During July, 3 of the churches of the Tadcaster Benefice will be open for private prayer on a Saturday. We aren’t quite sure what’s going to happen yet in August!

On Sunday 6th September, we will be holiday a “Back to School” service. At the moment, we don’t know whether that will be on Zoom, at St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton, in Tadcaster, in a field or in some other way that we haven’t thought of yet. We will make sure that this is well advertised.

To keep up-to-date with what’s happening, you can:

Best wishes and God bless,

Reverend Simon Biddlestone

ABC Tennis Summer Camps

Good afternoon from Ben Orton at ABC-Tennis-UK!

Over the past 3 years, your children have all, at some stage, partaken in an ABC-Tennis Club at their school and will probably be familiar with me if you ask them!

ABC-Tennis-UK Ltd, run by myself and Matt Ward, has partnered with Matt's business, 'icanplaytennis' this summer and wanted to let you know....

We are OPEN FOR BUSINESS FOR YOUR CHILDREN THIS SUMMER!!! Tennis camps can now be booked here>>>

We are delighted to be able to offer you some tennis camps - but places are strictly limited due to coronavirus measures that we have in place. Full details of our training, policies and procedures are online now. First come first served :)

We are also very excited to announce that we are also including a perfect socially distanced sport, Ultimate Frisbee as part of the camp this summer! - this is an exciting new sport that I am sure everyone will love and our camp leader and new ABC-Sports Clubs coach, Josh Brassington has represented the UK at various junior levels and will blow your children's minds with what he can do with a frisbee!!!! Matt and I can attest, this is a seriously fun sport, accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability!

Camps are for 3 days - and only 3 day bookings are possible. This is to create a "camp bubble" and reduce the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak, whilst minimising the risk of infection.

Please check our web-page for booking details.

Please note: Only bookings made via the website are being taken for our summer camps.

This is to ensure visibility for all.

Finally, we are only able to offer camps for children aged 7+. We are very sorry to any disappointed children and parents, but this follows guidance we have been given to ensure a safe experience for everyone.

We hope to see you soon and wish you all a fabulous summer holiday!!!

Best regards,

Ben Orton
