THE SYMBOL OF LOVE

Located in Agra, a city in the Uttar Pradesh , a region of Northern India stands the Taj Mahal. It was the place where the body would rest at last. The building covered with precious and semi-precious stones was built for a special royal women's body. For whose body was the building built ?

Becoming A Part Of The Royals

It was in the year of 1607 when Shah Jahan fell in love with fifteen year old Arjuman Banu .

They waited for five long years before they got married in the year of 1612. Shah Jahan changed Arjuman Banu's name to Mumtaz Muhal which means , " chosen one of the palace." She soon became the love of his life . Then, on June seventeenth , 1631 the love of his life died while giving birth to the fourteenth child , it was a girl named Gauhara Begum.

The Construction Begins

In an instance , the construction began , one thousand elephants were carrying gigantic loads of supplies for the building. Also twenty-two thousand workers worked on adding all the fascinating features to the structure. The structure being built covered with gem and white marble would hold a royal body. There were twenty-eight different varieties of semi-precious and precious stones. From 1632-1648 AD the building was being built.The white marble and gem were supposed to be Shah's vision of Mumtaz's home in paradise.
The building finished stands 171 meters tall which is five-hundred sixty feet tall.

Being Placed Into The Mausoleum

At last Mumtaz Muhal was placed into the building built for her. The word Taj Mahal means "crown of palaces." The complex includes not only a place where her body would rest but
OH MY ! A large reflecting pool , large gardens , a mosque , and other mausoleums . The monument today has come to be known as " the monument of love." At
different times of the day the Taj Mahal appears to be in a different color. Some people believe that these changing colors depict the changing moods of a woman and the changing colors showing the different time of day.
Now you know why this incredible building was built and for who. The building took a lot of work to complete but with the help of many people such as the craftsmen and artisans they completed the structure. The building still stands today attracting many tourists and showing how much Shah Jahan loved Mumtaz Muhal. Not only does it attract tourists but some people even got engaged and married there. This shows how much Shah Jahan cared and loved Mumtaz Muhal.

FUN FACTS

The Taj Mahal is considered to be one of India’s most admired works of art, as well as a famous landmark and a tourist attraction that draws millions of visitors every year.

One of the Taj Mahal’s most recognizable features is a large white dome that is often called an ‘onion dome’ due to its shape. It has a height of around 35 meters (115 feet) and is surrounded by 4 smaller domes.
