A Message from Mrs. Stevens- PLEASE READ!

Dear Fanning Families,
It is truly with mixed emotions as I share with you that I have accepted a Coordinator of PBIS position at Riverside County Office of Education. Being the principal at Fanning Elementary over the last four years has been the highlight of my professional career and it has taught me more in four years than I could have ever imagined. The students, families, and staff who I love with all my heart is what I will miss most. You have all been an essential part of my professional and personal life which makes this decision extremely difficult.
The timeline for my departure as Fanning Principal is still fluid due to the current state of our nation. I plan to serve as Fanning Principal until the end of this school year but no timelines have been set in stone. I will continue to support our team during distance learning, planning for end of the year activities and plan for the next school year so the next principal who has the privilege to lead at Fanning will have an easier transition.
It’s unfortunate that I cannot say my farewell in person but I will communicate the timeline for change to you as soon as possible. My time at Fanning will forever be part of me and you will all be missed.
Forever a Falcon,
Mrs. Theresa Stevens

A message from Dr. Brad Mason

Dear BOUSD Staff and Families,
Earlier this month, Governor Gavin Newsom, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and Orange County Superintendent Al Mijares recommended that districts across the state make plans to continue Distance Learning through the end of the school year. While it was our hope to return to classrooms before our last day of school, given the current environment, this scenario appears unlikely.
As we cannot predict when it will be safe for our students and staff to return to school, last night, the BOUSD Board of Education and I took action to extend the school facility closures through the end of the school year, June 4, 2020. To be clear, the 2019-20 school year is not over. Distance Learning is taking place in different ways throughout BOUSD and we couldn’t be more proud of our entire community for embracing this new method of off-campus learning.
End of the Year Activities
Please know that this decision comes with a heavy heart, but a clear understanding that this precautionary measure is necessary for the safety and wellness of our students, families, employees, and community. Every consideration will be made to recognize and honor our students. However, due to the state’s recommendation of school closures for the balance of this school year, we regretfully inform you that we will be unable to hold our traditional end of the year activities including, but not limited to:
All end of the year Senior activities including Prom
Graduation
8th grade promotion ceremony
All elementary end of the year activities including kindergarten and 6th grade promotions
Please know that district leaders have been planning on how we might offer these experiences in different formats. Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to plan the class of 2020’s recognition.
Distance Learning Continues
While our physical campuses remain closed to students, I would like to emphasize that Distance Learning and services will continue, including school counseling services, mental health and wellness supports, grab-and-go meals, technology distribution, and more. In the coming weeks, we will provide families with information regarding, but not limited to:
Grades, transcripts, scholarships and summer school
Picking up personal student items from sites
Yearbook distribution
Textbook check-in/return
Please remember, it is important for students to connect with their teachers and classmates regularly. We need to keep our lines of communication and collaboration open. We know this situation can be stressful. Please reach out to your child’s teacher and other support staff if you need assistance. We are here for you and your children.
Grab and Go Meal Service
Although campuses will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, we are committed to providing meals for all children 18 and under. This includes free breakfast and lunch grab-and-go meals for all children 18 and under regardless of their school of attendance. Meals are available Monday - Friday from 11:30 - 12:30 PM through June 4, 2020 at the following locations: Arovista Elementary, Country Hills Elementary, Laurel Elementary, Brea Junior High and Brea Olinda High School. Please note that dates, times and locations are subject to change. Details on summer meal programs will be provided soon.
Commitment to Communications
We remain committed to updating our dedicated Coronavirus webpage with new resources and credible information. We encourage you to view our webpage and to follow our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, where we will share additional coronavirus information and district news.
Thank you all for the compassionate support of our students, staff, families, and community. Your support has been critical to our success as a district as we navigate these uncharted waters.
Sincerely,
Brad Mason, Ed.D.
