A Thank You from the Stockings for Veterans project...

Thank you Maple Grove for your amazing support for the Stockings for Veterans project this past Christmas season. It made this year the most successful year yet. Here are two stories to show you what your thoughtfulness means to our veterans.

Story 1: At the Idaho Veterans Home, we were going door to door to hand deliver most of the stockings. We found one veteran in his room writing Christmas cards to the other residents on his floor instead of attending the party. When we told him we had a stocking for him from Santa, he paused and said, "I haven't thought about Santa in over 70 years."

I replied that Santa had never stopped thinking about him and wanted him to know he cared. The gentleman broke out into a huge smile, got tears in his eyes, and gave us hugs as a Thank You.

Story 2: Another veteran was clearly going through a rough time. He had a hard time comprehending what we were doing. Later when he saw me again, he showed me the card from the stocking and asked if I was the one that gave him the stocking. I said that I was. He replied with, "You have no idea how special this is to me, the stocking and especially the card! It brought tears to my eyes. I came home in the mid-60's and was treated terribly. This card shows that I am appreciated and not forgotten. I apologize if I seemed a bit confused and wacky earlier. I was in an explosion and lost part of my brain over there. I can't always keep things straight. This card is so special to me that I am putting it on my wall to brighten my days." I told him that this community cares about him and are thankful for him.

These stories illustrate what these stockings mean to our veterans. We would not have been able to do this without your students, parents, and faculty's support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this the most special year yet.

Jump Rope for Heart

We had an AWESOME event on Wednesday night January 24. The gym was crowded with 85 students jumping rope. We had individual jumpers as well as large groups all jumping at the same time. Thank you to the parents who came and watched, turned rope, helped at the snack table, counted money and put away chairs. We couldn't have done it with out ALL of your help!!! 85 students raised $5191.10. That is an AMAZING and unbelievable amount of money that we donated to the American Heart Association. Congratulation to Landon Hunt who raised $470. Maple Grove families you are truly generous.

Thank you,

Ms. Schaffeld
