Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a transformational physical activity based youth development program for girls in 3rd-5th grade. Spring registration will open on February 5th. The season will run from February 26th through May 11th
. Practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:45.
The mission of GOTR is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Participants will learn life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

A Thank You from the Stockings for Veterans project...
Story 1: At the Idaho Veterans Home, we were going door to door to hand deliver most of the stockings. We found one veteran in his room writing Christmas cards to the other residents on his floor instead of attending the party. When we told him we had a stocking for him from Santa, he paused and said, "I haven't thought about Santa in over 70 years."
I replied that Santa had never stopped thinking about him and wanted him to know he cared. The gentleman broke out into a huge smile, got tears in his eyes, and gave us hugs as a Thank You.
Story 2: Another veteran was clearly going through a rough time. He had a hard time comprehending what we were doing. Later when he saw me again, he showed me the card from the stocking and asked if I was the one that gave him the stocking. I said that I was. He replied with, "You have no idea how special this is to me, the stocking and especially the card! It brought tears to my eyes. I came home in the mid-60's and was treated terribly. This card shows that I am appreciated and not forgotten. I apologize if I seemed a bit confused and wacky earlier. I was in an explosion and lost part of my brain over there. I can't always keep things straight. This card is so special to me that I am putting it on my wall to brighten my days." I told him that this community cares about him and are thankful for him.
These stories illustrate what these stockings mean to our veterans. We would not have been able to do this without your students, parents, and faculty's support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this the most special year yet.
