The Best Middle School in the Universe!
Volume 13, Number 10 - January 14, 2019
Welcome to the BEST Middle School in the Universe!
As we head into the Spring semester, it is a good time to take a good look at your child's report card AND how they did on their Fall Final Exam. Many of their exams covered subject matter from the entire semester. This is good information for your child and you. This will show you what extra help they need and what their strengths are in each subject. Each day we are teaching our students to make sure they are learning the standards they need to be successful in their grade level. The dates below are for the STAAR test, where they will be assessed on their learning. Please mark down these dates in your calendar so you can plan any appointments around them. Although April and May seem so far away, time will come quickly. We constantly tell our students, they need to go in after school for tutorials if they are having trouble or if they have any grades below an 80. Our teachers are available after school or before school for help. It is also extremely important for your child to be at school every day. If your child isn't in school, they aren't receiving instruction. If they are absent, it is important they stay after school to talk to their teachers about work they missed. If you have any questions regarding how your child is doing, please reach out to their teacher.
8th grade STAAR Math/Reading - Tuesday/Wednesday, April 9th/10th
7th grade STAAR Writing - Tuesday, April 9th
6th/7th grade STAAR Math/Reading - Monday/Tuesday, May 13th/14th
8th grade STAAR Math/Reading Retest - Monday/Tuesday, May 13th/14th
8th grade STAAR Science/Social Studies - Wednesday/Thursday, May 15th/16th
We will have next Cougartime as a reward for our students who have been following The Cougar Way. Students who receive a referral from Monday, January 14th until Thursday, February 14th will not participate in Cougartime. Also, any student who still has not completed their Summer Reading assignment will not be participating in Cougartime and will use that time to complete their project.
Please remember we do not allow holes in jeans any longer.
Teacher Emails and Grades
If you cannot make it, please be on the lookout for teacher emails. Each teacher should be sending emails to you every two weeks regarding content, upcoming tests, assignments and projects. Also you should see one grade a week being entered into the grade book. Teachers updates grades on Monday by midnight so checking grades on Tuesday is something to encourage your child to do. Students can access Student Self-Serve below:

We also encourage all parents to update their Parent Self Serve as you can get updates and text messages for grades and absences. See below:
