Summer Music Camps
Mr. Gulledge's Summer Trumpet Camp
We are in the beginning stages of preparing for next school year, 2022-2023. Part of our job as private teachers is to get information, fundamentals, skills, and habits to our students BEFORE they need it. The summer is an important part of when we do that, ahead of the upcoming school year.
I’d like to invite your student to trumpet camp this summer. We are holding two sessions to accommodate everyone's potential vacation schedules, and provide an opportunity that is local to our students. These types of summer camps exist in other areas, most often on college campuses but are not specific to our instrument. Essentially those camps are general band camps, whereas our camp is specific to our instrument and the skills our students will be looking to develop for 2022-2023. Camp dates are June 20-23 @ Keller HS and July 18-21 @ Keller HS.
These trumpet camps have been a regular staple in our development for several years. We are able to offer them again, and I’m very excited to have an opportunity to build our student trumpet community. What we can accomplish together is far greater than what one can do on their own. It’s always fun to welcome new trumpeters to our community, it’s very helpful for students to see the progress of their peers, very motivating!
I’m including a registration link for both sessions. Students are welcome to attend one, or both, depending on their interest, availability, and goals. Times for each session are broken up into age groups so that students will be in the appropriate skill set rehearsals. If a student would like to attend but isn’t available during their time slot, please communicate with me, I can offer a solution.
The focus of our trumpet camp is to distribute our private lesson curriculum for each student, work through the next year's audition literature, explore the practice strategies that are relevant to each of those pieces, and understand the expectations in rehearsal/performance of our middle school and high school ensembles for our instrument. We want to take the time during the summer to get ahead, it makes for a better experience during the school year.
There are five skills for our instrument: Tone, Flexibility, Technique, Articulation, and Range - The summer is the time we can zero in on our fundamentals further as a group, minus the rest of the band class. These camps can be a great way to supplement a students vacation schedule, or if they currently do not have a private trumpet teacher, this can be a great place to get plugged into the skills needed.
I will provide the material for each week - the students will just need to be in attendance, with their instrument and have fees paid before each session.
I hope your student will consider attending and spending time with us.
If you have any questions, please send an email to GulledgeSD@gmail.com - Let me know how I can help!
