Term 3 Week 4 Friday 12 August
FROM MARK
Hi Everyone,
For mine there is a lot of alignment between the owners of the above words, and much to be said for giving them a lot of thought and how they apply to ourselves. I hope you like them.
Constable Care made his presence felt this week, and we were delighted to welcome him! Our thanks go to Katherine Anderson, teacher of Year Two Dominic, for arranging this opportunity.
Our Music specialist teacher Michelle Kirwan ran a fantastic Performing Arts assembly today. It really was so good to see many of our children in fine form and really motivated to share their talents with the rest of us. They and Michelle are to be congratulated.
Also today, many of our children were involved in the Cross Country Championships, a competition with some 80 schools involved. Our Physical Education specialist teacher Rob Flexman identified this extra opportunity for our children and they have responded with great enthusiasm. Thank you Rob!
Next week is National Science Week and our Science specialist teacher Tanya Skinner has arranged some interesting and enjoyable activities for our children to engage with. We look forward to the week!
Have a great weekend - see you on Tuesday.

Science Week 2022
Dear Parents, next week is National Science Week and the theme is “Glass : more than meets the eye” which fits great with Chemical Sciences which we are studying in science this term.
Throughout Perth there are a variety of activities that you can take your child to, just visit the website: https://www.scienceweek.net.au/
At school we will have a variety of activities during both Science and lunchtime based on the theme and a Science show later in the term. I’m sure the children will love it!
This week Holly Duffield brought in a sample of the glass blowing sculpture that her dad made in Margaret River. We were all impressed!

LIBRARY
It’s almost Book Week! This year’s theme is DREAMING WITH EYES OPEN. Friday 26th August in week 6, is our famous HR Book Week Parade. Children are encouraged to dress as their favourite book character using things they already have at home. The assembly will be held on the courts, weather dependant, and parents are welcome to come and see the fun. After the assembly, the library will be open for parents to view the incredible art that our students prepared for Book Week. Thank you all for your support of literacy and Book Week at our school.

OUR P & F NEWS
Well they say it takes a village… and wow what a (village) community we have!
Last Friday's Saint Dominic’s Day and Colour Run was so much fun – so wonderful to see the kids, parents and teachers having such a blast. 389 kids signed up out of a possible 402 – WOW!
Firstly, a massive thank you Kara O’Sullivan, Verity Phoenix and Ryleigh Stewart (3 of our 4 P&F members) for jumping on board with a colour run as quickly as I did. Timing was tight but with all your support & the help from school and parent volunteers we nailed it!
Around 9:30am, whilst searching for a safe place to connect a power cord with David Edwards, I had the absolute privilege of watching the upper school kids preparing their stalls for St Dominics Day… their efforts and excitement generated such a buzz. Seeing them so independent, happy, working as teams & seeing their ideas come to life, brought a smile to my face – that never left all day. I returned around 11:30am to allow time to get everything unpacked ready for our parent volunteers – and the stalls were in full swing with shrieks of delight from all the kids. A sight to see, that would warm everyone’s heart. The kids had it under control which gave many wonderful teachers a chance to lend us a hand with setup. Thank you Tegan Back, Mike Thacker, Kaity Passmore, Peter Scutti, Julie Catherall, Lachie Darby, David Edwards, and many other staff who lent a hand. So wonderful to see so many teachers & Mr D himself dressed in white or in costume, getting involved in some way or another – it’s this involvement that makes it so much more fun.
There would have been no course or colour without our wonderful parent volunteers. Erica Bursey, Kristen Spencer, Renae Dwyer, Susannah Bell, Carly Lawrence, Christina Pereira, Tory Tracey, Dani Borgas, Louise Azarian, Morteezza Azarian, Rita Maio, Bec Roe, Lisa Monzu, Eleanor Capolingua, Asha Julian, Polly Farmer, Jess King, Rose Consentino, Taryn Spooner, Diane Thorpe, Thank you for taking time out of your day & maybe even a colour hit or 2. Seeing you all get in amongst the kids to ensure they were coloured and wet was just awesome.
Thanks to everyone who helped pack up also – all done and dusted by 3.30pm!
An extra shout out to years 4&5 for offering to wash down the gazebos and tunnels this week.
Lastly, but by no means least, a massive thank you to our entire parent community for purchasing tickets ($2881.50) making donations ($1791.00) this in turn has allowed us as a P&F to make a donation to Wheel Chairs for Kids and give back to our school community via our P&F projects. So good.
(Please note: I had no input into the charity the school chose, but yes I’m touched beyond words!)
Thank you
Your 2022 P&F committee
