RBHS BRIDGE Communication
Rock Bridge High School Newsletter May 1, 2020
RBHS Family Update
There have been some district updates since our last newsletter that I want to highlight here.
May Entry to RBHS
We are in the process of coordinating our plans for allowing students and staff back into our buildings in the month of May. We are not opening RBHS up for normal operations in May. Access will be strictly limited and highly coordinated. The plan we create will prevent person to person contact. This will take place under the conditions that we can only allow 10 people at a time in a single zone of RBHS, and the building will be divided into 4 separate zones.
For grades 9-11, each student will be allowed a single visit in the month of May to retrieve any necessary personal items and return any RBHS/CPS items. Student laptops will not be collected at this time, but we will accept all other materials.
May 21 and 22 will be the designated days for RBHS Seniors to pick up and drop off all remaining necessary materials. This will include the distribution of yearbooks and the collection of student laptops.
May 21 and 22 will also be the designated days for all RBHS Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Music students to drop off equipment and apparel for cleaning and repair.
Stay tuned for further instructions regarding this planning. As soon as we have a viable plan in place for this process, we will communicate it directly to you.
Graduation and Prom
The Class of 2020 should expect communication soon regarding these very important events. Yesterday, the Boone County Health Department released some guidelines for reopening the county that will help us with our planning.
Summer School
Summer School will not be held in person this summer. We will only be able to offer online for credit advancement and credit recovery. Please be watching for emails directly from the summer school office for information on the June and July summer online sessions.
This week was our normally scheduled Kindness Week and efforts have been made via social media platforms to continue this tradition. We hope you were able to participate in some form. As we conclude this RBHS Kindness Week, I want to remind you that today, Friday May 1st, our focus is on self-care. Be sure to do something today that makes you happy, Rock Bridge. Please view the rest of this newsletter for information and celebrations relevant to CPS and RBHS.
Stay well,
Mr. Sirna
May 1 is College Decision Day
CPS Spirit Week May 4-8
Next week, Monday May 4th -- Friday May 8th will be a district-wide CPS Virtual Spirit Week. All schools in the district will participate, from dressing up to uniting behind a common charity effort in our own community!
Students, teachers, and staff (and even parents!) should dress up each day, and post on their social media using the hashtag #CPSspiritweek. While posting, you can also mention @cpsvirtualspirit on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, and tag your individual school's Student Council pages! The high school handles are listed below:

The Spirit Days:
Monday: PJ Day! Stay comfy all day long!
Tuesday: Vacay Day! Dress for your perfect vacation! This could be the beach, the mountains, sightseeing, hiking, hunting... whatever sounds best to you!
Wednesday: Fancy Day! Seniors, we want to see your prom gear! For everyone who's not a senior, show us your fanciest wear to honor our seniors!
Thursday: JERSDAY-THURSDAY! Rock your best jersey!
Friday: School Pride Day! Represent your school colors! We are #cpsbest, but lets show off our individual school spirit!
The Fundraising:
We are uniting together behind a cause that is local, prevalent, and initiated by one of CPS's own students! Rock Bridge High School's Shruti Gautam paired up with the Columbia Rotary to form Meals for Healthcare Heroes. This cause aims to to support both local businesses AND feed healthcare workers. Since it's creation, many CPS groups and organizations have gotten on board to help our community members in most need! Please consider making a donation this week!
Students, staff, family, and community members may donate at this link:
We hope to see all staff, students, faculty, and parents come together during this week to show why CPS really is the best! Thank you so much for supporting our students as they continue to find ways to stay connected and support our amazing community!
2020 Flashback "Assembly"
On Friday May 8th we will conclude #CPSspiritweek with our Flashback "Assembly". Obviously we can't all be together at this time, but we want to end the school year in the best way we know how -- by honoring and celebrating members of our community! On Friday May 8th everyone will be sent a link to a "virtual" "assembly". This will include links to watch videos and slideshows celebrating some amazing moments and heartfelt awards. There will be features for:
- 2019-2020 Teacher Superlative Awards
- 2019-2020 W. Wayne Walker Award
- 2019-2020 Ilene Ford Activities Award
- 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year Award
- Spring Bruin of My Life Awards
- Some musical performances
- Honoring of Retiring Staff
Please take a moment on Friday May 8th (or over the weekend) to check out the links and help us honor the end of the year together, even if from afar.
