Tradition of Trick or Treating
Trick or treating is an American tradition, but is thought to lead back to the England parade's for All Souls' Day. On this holiday in England the poor citizens would beg for pastries that they would call "soul cakes". They called this "going a-souling". Eventually the tradition started to change, the children started going from house to house and be given food or money. The tradition of dressing up in costumes for Halloween went back to both Europe and Celtic history. It was believed that people would dress up in masks and scary costumes so they would blend in the spirits that arose on that night. the people thought if they dressed up in masks that the spirits would mistake them as fellow spirits.
