September 2022 News

Welcome back! We're looking forward to a great school year!

Assistance from the Assistant Principal

With a revised CES Student Handbook comes new information about policies and procedures. Each month, I will highlight and explain one of our policies. . .up first? BUS TRANSPORTATION!!

In order to keep our students safe and our drivers informed, we have the following guideline in place:

Students will be limited to one assigned route (page 7, Item 1.e) Said differently: students may only ride their assigned bus home from school. They may not ride home with a friend or occasionally ride to a different destination. The only exception to this is if you have a permanent custody or child care situation that we can publish and share with all necessary teachers and drivers. This is something we require one month in advance. If you have a permanent schedule, please contact Kristen Ray at kray@carroll.k12.in.us to discuss. Please do not ask us to make exceptions. Dismissal is a crazy time at the elementary school, and our goal every day is to make sure every single student gets safely to her or his destination. By limiting confusion surrounding buses, we are better able to keep your children safe.

ISP Digital Safety Night

Please join us as we host Indiana State Police for a Digital Safety Meeting. Please see attached flyer below for more information!

Annual Title I Meeting

You are invited to attend our Annual Title I Meeting on 28 @ 9:00am or September 29th @6:00. Staff will be on hand to explain what it means to be a School-Wide Title I program, the resources we use, and how parents can be involved. Meetings will be held in the cafeteria! Please RSVP at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfFJMupdtfz27CKrVwoxR1LzP0NSAqGnXDZyQ7dKEf_trZQOg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Morning Drop Off

When dropping students off in the mornings, students should exit vehicles from the right side only. If it is not possible for a right side exit, please ensure that your student crosses in front of your vehicle. This is in an effort to help keep students as safe as possible.

P.R.I.D.E. Week

P.R.I.D.E. (Positive Reinforcement Interventions Driving Excellence) Week is August 29-September 2. We would like to encourage all students to participate in the following dress up days:

Monday: Hat Day

Tuesday: Neon Day

Wednesday: Team Spirit Day

Thursday: Proud to be an American

Friday: Cougar Pride Day

Bus Safety

All drivers should be extra careful and patient as school starts back up and buses once again hit the roads. Indiana state law requires drivers to stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended and red lights flashing. Failure to do so can result in a traffic ticket and your driver's license being suspended. For divided roadways, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop. Help us keep our children safe!

Color Days

Our newest Cougars are working on learning to read and write their color words. Each day from September 13th through September 23rd has been assigned a color for the students to wear. All students are encouraged to support our Kinders and follow along in the fun!

P.E. News

Just a reminder that students should be wearing tennis shoes on PE days, NOT boots, Crocs or heels. We run, jump, and kick in PE. If your child does not have tennis shoes, please contact me. Thanks, Mr. Falkenberg

Book Fair

October 3-7

Your child will be visiting the Book Fair during their scheduled library time the week of October 3rd. Book Fair will also be open on October 11th during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Look for more information to be coming home with your child soon, as well as in next month’s newsletter!

I am needing volunteers to help during the Book Fair, especially in the afternoons!!! Please email aclick@carroll.k12.in.us if you are available. You must have a Limited Criminal Background check on file at the office for this school year.

2nd Grade Recycling Project

The annual Trex plastic recycling contest is now underway at CES. We will be collecting plastic film until the end of April. Please see below for a list of items that we accept! You can send plastic in with your child at any time to be placed in one of our collection bins around the school. Thanks for helping 2nd graders see firsthand the importance of recycling!
