1/2 cup light brown sugar

Heat oven to 375° F. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

With an electric mixer, beat the butter, brown sugar, and 1 cup of the granulated sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Reduce speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until incorporated.

In a shallow bowl, combine the cinnamon and the remaining ¼ cup of granulated sugar. Form the dough into balls (each equal to 1 level tablespoon). Roll the balls in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place on parchment-lined baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

Sly cooper is a game about a thief who is a raccoon and his friend Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippo. Sly Cooper’s terrain generation is pretty similar in every level (I believe this is the only bad part about the game) but it is still a great game that is both challenging and actiony. The wild west level was one of my favorite because of the awesome acrobatic and (only in this level) shooting mechanics. The controls are really easy and it’s a good game to introduce you to the PS3’s controller, it’s a good way to transfer from the Xbox since the Xbox One is $700 and the Playstation is a very easy to use system. This is probably one of my favorite games on the PS3 behind Ratchet And Clank: All 4 One. Next week's review will be on Ratchet And Clank: All 4 One.

Needle Fingers (Part One) By Kaitlyn Ford

(August 15, 2007)

“Mother! Mother, look what I’ve found!” I heard my daughter, Marcy, call from one side of the old antique store. We are a family of two, new to the neighborhood. We recently moved here in search of a new start, and we are finding it hard to settle in the small town of Greenville. It seems like it’s been only days since the move, but it’s already been quite a few weeks.

I followed the sound of Marcy’s cheerful voice, and eventually found her in the back of the store, her sky blue eyes glittering, and her young face stretched into a wide grin. Marcy’s hands were behind her back, hiding something from me. I knew that it was something that Marcy had just found it the store, but I was curious to find what would attract a 6 year old’s gaze in an antique store.

“What do you have there?” I asked her gently, crouching down to her height. Without saying a word, Marcy smiled broader, and in a quick motion, pushed her hands forwards to show me what she had found. In Marcy’s small pale hands was by far, the ugliest doll I have ever seen.

It’s eyes were stitched crosses in dark brown string, and the same string had been used to stitch a slight frown into the doll’s head. The rest of the doll was a simple rag doll, garbed in brownish-grey rags, which was stitched together in a matching brown-grey string.

Although I found it’s appearance grotesque and disturbing, I didn’t say that to Marcy, who found the doll to be the best thing in the world. She smiled happily, and asked me excitedly, “Isn’t she beautiful?” I nodded my head and smiled at her, although I silently disagreed. I didn’t want to buy the ugly rag doll, but when Marcy pleaded with me, I couldn’t say no. I regret it.

(August 18, 2007)

It’s been two days since our trip to the antique store, and already I have grown a strong dislike to the rag doll we, I bought. For some unknown reason, I get an uneasy feeling when I’m around it, almost like it’s stitched eyes were actually watching me…

It was a Tuesday, and like every Tuesday, I was washing the dishes, scrubbing them forcefully with the scratchy side of the sponge. It was then that I heard Marcy’s loud footsteps pounding through the upstairs hallway and down the stairs. I heard her run into the kitchen, and she fell into my back, pushing me into the counter and sending the sponge to the floor.

“Marcy,” I scold her. “How many times must I tell you to not run in the house?” I leaned down to pick up the sponge and turned to look at Marcy, only that I didn’t see her… I was dumbfounded. It was simply impossible for Marcy to have run away so fast. “Marcy?” I called.

A few seconds later, I heard Marcy respond, her voice coming from her room upstairs, “Yes, Mother?” Suddenly, I felt cold. Dead cold. If Marcy had been upstairs all this time, then who bounded down the stairs in such a rush? Who pushed me into the counter? As if on cue, I felt that same dreadful feeling of being watched, and to my right, I saw movement flicker in the corner of my eye. I whipped my head to see what made the movement, but to my surprise and relief, there was nothing.

Glancing in every direction, I finally turned back to the dishes and continue to wash them as if nothing had happened, but I just couldn’t seem to get the odd encounter out of my mind.

(August 25, 2007)

It was a normal day, though this came surprisingly, because for the last 2 days, my feelings for the doll worsened, and I felt as if I constantly needed to check over my back. Now, the feelings I get when I’m around the doll, stick with me, even though I can’t see it anywhere. It’s as if it’s following me...in the shadows where it can see me, but I can’t see it…

Odd encounters similar to the one I have previously experienced are recurring more and more by the day. Twice I felt that same cold force pushing into me, and they each seem for violent than the last. The most recent one occurred as I was filling out my resumé online, when suddenly I felt the temperature drop dramatically. It had grown eerily silent, and I felt my strong feelings of dread return. I was just about to check my back when I felt my hair being grabbed and yanked back aggressively and I had fallen backwards off my chair, landing painfully on my ankle. The pain was horrid, and I was barely able to drag myself standing once more, only being able to when supporting myself on the chair.

I still limp and occasionally get that sharp pain once in a while, but otherwise I’ve physically healed rather well, though my mind seems to be wearing down. I feel my slowly sanity draining, all these encounters mere things that my mind has conjured up. I’m scared, I admit, and I fear that something might be in the house, but what I can’t seem to put my finger on…

Halloween Costumes of 2013 By: Anna K.

This year some of the Halloween costumes that are available are; fox, Mad Hatter, M&M, Alice (Alice in Wonderland), and Despicable Me minion.

FOX: Since the new popular song (What Does the Fox Say?), tons of people of any age have been wanting to be a fox for Halloween. I got a fox costume for Halloween and they are already getting sold out really fast. The costume I saw was for a girl/teen it is called Sweet Fox and it is from Spirit Halloween. It comes with a fuzzy dress, a hood with fox ears, and boot covers.

MAD HATTER: If you are unsure of who the Mad Hatter is, he is from the popular movie Alice in Wonderland. Lately, I have seen more girls than boys interested in being the Mad Hatter. From what I know a lot of people are going to be wearing this type of costume this Halloween. The outfit/costume comes with a dress with a little of a puffed out skirt, an attached neck tie, a green and yellow hat, crazy leggings, and glovelettes.

M&M: M&M’s are many peoples favorite candy, and now it is a costume! You can find them in many different colors that the M&M’s come in. Such as; red, yellow, blue, and green. They have costumes for boys, girls, men, and women. The costume I find to be the most popular is the one for younger boys. It comes with a poncho type shirt and gloves so you can become your own M&M.

ALICE: Also like the Mad Hatter, Alice is also from Alice in Wonderland. The Alice costume comes with many things any little girl would love. First off the dress that comes with is a light baby blue, with playing card symbols all over it. To make the costume even more worth it, it comes with a hat with a ribbon the same color as the dress.

DESPICABLE ME MINION: From the popular movie Despicable Me, they had these adorable minions in both the first one and the sequel. Many people adore them and think they are the best thing and now they even have costumes for them. The one I find is the most popular is the one for little toddlers(mostly boys). It comes with a romper that makes you look just like a minion. Also to jazz it up even more it comes with a headpiece to look like the minions goggles.
